Question about Black & Decker B2300 Bread Machine

I just bought this and made my first loaf of bread, it didn't turn out, it did not bake evenly and the top was very uneven.

Since this is a 3 pound loaf and most others are 1 1/2 or 2 pounds, the recipes will need to be modified. I found that this machine has mostly negative reviews. Just doubling a 1 1/2 loaf recipe won't necessarily work, since it needs more time to rise. Try moist yeast, instead of dry yeast. It MIGHT help.

How can I keep a baked loaf of bread from sticking to the pan ina west bend bread maker?


Let pan and loaf cool for about 10-15 mins then try to slide it out then. Also you can very gently ease a plastic knife around the top of the bread, to see if this helps.

use 2 tablespoons less liquid in a 2.0 lb. loaf, 1.5 less in a 1.5 lb. loaf and 1 tablespoon less with a 1.0 lb. loaf.....start there and let me know what happens

That is a feature on your bread machine that prevents you from starting a loaf of bread when the oven is too hot fro the last loaf. You need to open the lid, leave it open for 30 minutes then bake your next loaf.

Bread pan Capacities


Here is how you determine the size of loaf you can bake in your machine. You need to determine the capacity of your pan. Fill your pan with water and measure the cups added so you know how many cups of water are in the pan when it is full to the very top. Here are the conversions:


1)If your pan holds less than 10 cups of water you can make: a 1 pound loaf


2)If your pan holds 10 cups of water you can make: a 1 pound loaf and a 1.5 pound loaf


3)If your pan holds 12 cups you can make: a 1 pound, 1.5 pound, and a 2.0 pound loaf

This is rare, but if you pan holds 14 cups or more you can make all the above plus a 2.5 pound loaf

How large of a loaf can i make


Here is how you determine your loaf size:

FILL YOUR PAN WITH WATER FROM A VESSEL THAT SHOWS HOW MANY CUPS YOU ARE ADDING OR JUST ADD ONE CUP AT A TIME WITH A ONE CUP MEASURING CUP ETC. ....COUNT YOUR CUPS as you fill........ WHEN FULL TO THE VERY TOP:

if your Pans capacity is less than 10 cups of water you can only bake a one pound loaf

If your Pan capacity is 10 cups then you can bake a one pound loaf or a 1.5 pound loaf

If your pan capacity is 12 cups to the top of the pan you can bake a 1, 1.5, or 2.0 pound loaf

If you pan capacity is 14 cups or more than you can go as high as a 2.5 pound loaf.

Every time I bake a wholemeal loaf, it bakes well enough, but it tapers off to one end. This problem does not seem to occur with white bread, which rises evenly throughout the length of the loaf.


Fast Action Easy Bake yeast is supposed to help with improving the volume of a loaf, but you can add 1/4 tsp of Vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid) to whole wheat loafs to improve the rise. Sometimes mixing the flours helps as a small amount of white (30%) can make the loaf less dense. Make sure you use the best quality flour you can afford - the cheap ones don't always make such a good loaf.

Bread not done but timer went off


Perhaps the size of loaf selected was not the correct one for the amount of ingredients. Small loaf selected won't bake as long. Try selecting the larger loaf size and it should bake long enough. Also be sure you measure the water or other wet ingredients carefully. Good luck!

Top of bread loaf falls


Use Fleischman's Active Dry Yeast, and not any other kind of yeast - make sure you follow the recipe guide to the letter, or your results may not turn out right. Also, never pre-mix the ingredients before putting them in the Cuisinart - let the breadmaker do the mixing for you.

I have a problem with uneven shaped loaves


The paddles fit two ways, so what you must do is have them facing opposite ways, then they fight with each other and elongate the loaf
