Acer 5610 DC jack problem - need to dismantle laptop

My Acer 5610 power supply is working (checked) but the jack seems disconnected from the mother board.
I'm trying to dismantle the laptop but can't find a way of releasing the top cover near the screen. HELP!

The solider tends to loseen up on the power connection.Make sure all screws are removed some are under the covers on bottom of laptop slightly pry the top up where ever it seems to be holding look for a screw underneath where its holding.if all screws are out it should come off fairly easy.

How do i power up my acer ferrari 4000

Remove main battery and try again, if nothing! check power adapter for correct voltage, If okay! sub out the ram memory one at a time and test, still no change! the DC jack is often the source of trouble and the laptop will need to be dismantled down to the motherboard level, the DC jack will probably need resoldering.

Change dc jack / no power indicator

It does sound like the DC jack, you will need to dismantle down to the motherboard, chances are the jack pin is not making proper contact with the main board, "the board is double foiled" when board has been completely removed you need to resolder the points where the DC jack sits. This is a very tricky repair and to involved to give step by step instructions, I recommend a professional.

Acer 5610 charging difficulty

Yes! the DC jack will probably need to be resolded, and I would recommend replacing the power adapter because it may fix your problem, I find the universal supplies don't fit as tight as the original ones. www.ebay.com is a good place to start for power supply replacement.

No power at all, tried a new charger still no power and replaced the battery.

Hi

After the battery and AC cord replacement and still not getting power there's only once culprit there and that is the motherboard of the laptop. I recommend you call Acer and have them replace it for you. Thanks

Power cord attachment into the back of computer seems worn, it wants to run off battery instead of recharging through power supply

Either Have A Failing AC Adapter, Or A Failing DC Jack
you can test the AC Adapter using a multimeter (available at any home improvement center for $6)..
The DC Jack Would Need To Physically Be Checked To See If It's Faulty... which would intail removal of all parts down to the motherboard and visually inspect the DC Jack (the port where the Charger Cord Plugs into)

The power socket needs to be replaced, but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get access to the power socket on the motherboard. I suggest you get a quote for this repair.

No ac power but plugged in

If you plugged in the ac adapter, and you still get no power and cannot turn it on, the first thing to check is the AC adapter. Get a voltage meter, set it to 200 DC, put the positive on the inside and the ground on the outside. Unless you have a highpower alienware laptop, it should read +/- 20 V, most likely 19.xx. If your AC adapter is good, then the DC jack, what the adapter plugs into, is bad. In this case, the laptop will have to be disassembled, the mother boared removed, the old DC jack de-soldered and taken off, and a new DC jack soldered on. You would really need to take it to a qualified techninician at a shop to di it.

DC input jack broken

Yes it's not usually something that can be repaired at home. Your chances are better if the jack just seems loose and not actually broken, however replacing it is better. I work for a Laptop Repair Shop in NYC and we deal with this issue frequently.
