Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Garage door opens whenever it wants to

No certain time of day, just "whenever" ......... not every day ........ I carry no remotes in my pockets. I didn't have this problem until I bought a Chamberlain "Clicker" remote and set it up. Thinking that was the problem, I removed the battery from it and bought a Craftsman dipswitch remote and set it up. SAME PROBLEM !!!
I'm guessing this unit was put in when the house was built about 1990.

In most cases, when a garage door opens or closes by itself, or when you find your door open, up returning home, the problem is due to a short somewhere. This short is most likely to be in one of two places: either in one of your transmitters or in the wall button or its wiring.

When there is a short in your garage door transmitter, you will often find the garage door is up upon returning home, even though you know you closed the door when you left the house. A short in your transmitter causes ta continuous signal to be sent. As you are pulling out of the driveway the garage door closes fully and appears to stop, but as the carriage and arm run past the down limit and hits the header bracket it reverses and the door begins to open, just as you start driving off down the road. You come home to find the garage door is up, as if someone else had opened your door. The best thing to do to troubleshoot the garage door problem is remove the batteries from your transmitters and try operating the door from the wall button. If the problem is intermittent, you may want to do this for a day or two to eliminate the transmitters as the culprit.

If the problem persists, try removing the wall button wire at the motor head to ensure it is not a short in the wire to the button, then try operating the garage door with the transmitters only. If it stops the problem, replace the wires and test the wall button which can also go bad. It is a process of elimination.

Well, to make a short story long, a policeman knocked on my door and asked me if I knew both my garage doors were opened. The temperatures were subzero and single digits above 0. I alone and no one but...

Sounds like someone else in your neighborhood has the same garage door opener and it's on the same radio frequency as yours. And yours may be opening theirs. Your frequency can be changed, but you'll have consult your Owners Manual on how to do it or contact Sears.

If someone in your family carries the remote garage opener in the pocket or purse, it can be accidentally triggered. I say this, because my mother-in-law used to do it all the time.

Garage door opens on its own with new Chamberlain "Clicker"

There can be a short in the logic board that causes this problem.

Remote Control closes garage door but does not open

It sounds like a case of your keypad losing signal strength enough that it cannot transmit through the closed door. If a new battery doesn't do the job a new keypad will.

Our garage door opens at random times throughout the day and night. Can this be adjusted somehow? Thanks for the help! Good day

Try looking in your user manual or on the internet about how to change the frequencies used by the garage door remote and reciever. I'm guessing it is picking up signals from some appliance on the same frequency, either in your house or nearby. Also, try nearby houses' remotes on your door– it could be them interfering with you.

Garage door

you possibly have a remote control that has a key stuck in ,locate all your remotes and check for that first , also i have seen first hand doors opening by themselves ,the older ones had 3 frequencys that they went by 308-310-312 now theese are the 40 year old machines and if you live close to a police station /fire station/or airport ,these facilties broadcast in the same frequency and all they have to do is key the microphone or radio and they send a signal , well that got to be crazy so the garage opener co,s decided to have their remotes on a different frequency and this worked fine ,now we have multi code systems that are in the billions ,now we have rolling code technology ,another way to fix your problem if you don,t have a sticky remote key is replace the logic board ,and that will defietly solve your issue , logic boards to go bad and do things that are not normal operation to the machine , i would like to know more about your machine because you did,nt state what brand or how old it is and i would be able to give you better advice if i knew more about the issue , does it open at different times of the day , does it do it everyday ,or just sometimes ,do you keep a remote in your pocket ? the reason i am asking is because i had a customer call me about his door being open in the morning when he came out of the house , I found that to be that when he sat down to watch television at night he had a keychain remote in pocket and everytime he sat down one of the keys would press up against the remote and open his door ,so when he came out in the morning he would see it open when he knew he had closed it the night before , that one took a little detective work but i solved the problem , Hope i was able to help you and feel free to contact me again if you don,t find the problem , i you feel i was helpful please leave a nice rating , thank you glenn

Can the buttons on the remote be canceled for the sliding doors?

I contacted the Cheverolet dealer where I purchased the vehicle: and there is no solution unless you switch the doors to a manual operation.

Remotes don't work

I recently had Verizon FIOS equipment installed in my garage (for phone, internet and TV), which is plugged into a 110 volt electrical outlet. Thinking this equipment might be causing some RF interference, I unplugged the FIOS equipment, and both garage door openers immediately worked perfectly again!
After reconnecting the FIOS equipment, I then plugged the garage door opener into a different electrical outlet approximately 15 ft. away via an extension cord, and the openers continue to work fine. Fingers crossed, I hope the issue is permanently resolved.
