Question about Belkin (F5D5231-4) Router

1 Answer

Downloading Problem When trying to down load any thing using the belkin g wireless rounter the downloads start fine but die before completion of the file.  Usually getting to or just under 1 meg in size.  Running directly from my modem I don't have this problem, as well as it seems to be effecting two of my machines (one xp, one vista) and all browsers I have tried on them (Fire Fox, IE, Netscape). Surfing from page to page dosn't show any type of problems, only the download its self seems to be effected.  It also seems to make little difference be it  connected directly to the router or going wireless.

Re: Downloading Problem

See if belkin has a firmware upgrade for your router - They may have already found and fixed a bug in the router and you just need to install it.

The belkin rounter of my dad's laptop was installed without password setting. i tried to set it up on configuration page. i was notified that the rounter will restart again itself...thereafter...

If you can still remember the password that you entered on the configuration page, follow the steps below:
1. In the lower right corner of your screen (near the time and date), right click on the wireless network connection icon, then select view available wireless networks. Or, if your wireless adapter has its own wireless utility, you should see that in the lower right corner of your screen.
2. You should see the router's wireless network name (SSID). By default, the SSID is "belkin54g". Select the SSID and it will prompt you for the network key.
3. The network key is the password that you entered on the router configuration page.

If you cannot remember the password that you entered, follow the steps below.
a. Connect your computer to the router using an ethernet cable.
b. Access the setup page by typing in the address bar.
c. Go to Wireless -> Security. Copy the network key.
d. Then follow steps 1-4 above.

For the MAC computer:
1. From the Airport menu, select the SSID.
4. When asked for a password, enter the network key that you entered on the router.

I hope this helps!

I keep losing my connection while downloading torrents. everything else works fine, but when i'm downloading torrents the router loses connection after a little while

Chances are your ISP is slowing you down run the second test on the following post.

Google's broadband test tools are located at On that page, you'll see an first icon that says "Users: Test Your Internet Connection". Click that, and then you'll be taken to a page where there are three tests available, and two more listed as coming soon. However, out of the three available tests, only one of them is fully automated and easy to use.
Glasnost , second on the list, will check whether your ISP is slowing down (like Comcast) or blocking Peer2Peer (P2P) downloads from software such as BitTorrent. P2P apps are commonly used for downloading illegal software and media content like movies and music, but also are used for legal purposes as well, such as distributing large software packages to many users at once.
To use the measurement tool, you will be redirected to the Glasnost site. You'll need the latest version of Java installed, and you should stop any large downloads that you may have running before you begin the test. If you're on a Mac, a popup message will prompt you to trust the site's Java applet.
When you're ready to start, you can choose whether you want to run a full test (approximately 7 minutes long) or a simple test (4 minutes long).

Change the IP address

There are a couple of things you could have done. Did you turn DHCP off? Are you just trying to use this as a WAP? The easiest thing to do is plug your computer into one of the ports on the Belkin, and nothing into the LAN port, do an IPCONFIG release and an IPCONFIG renew and let the computer get a new IP address. Then try logging into the gateway address displayed.

If you're doing a WAP, set an SSID, set the IP address to your 235 and gateway to 1, turn off DHCP, or let it pass through, because you're going to let the Linksys give out all IP's, then plug the linking cable into network, NOT USING THE WAN port. From the network, you should be able to ping if you can, point your browser to that address and see if you can now log into the Belkin.

If you run into trouble, comment back and I might actually download the manual :-)

"Because it is a belkin!"

Basically, your wireless router is not capable of handling the load of heavy downloading, and locks up.
