I just sent this Email to Royal:

    Dear Royal representative,

We have a Royal Cross-cut Shredder which I have repaired on four occasions and now is the time to give up as it is now not reparable. The problem began when the retaining screws which hold the cutter in place to sync with the gears became stripped and thereby causing the cutters to twist and jam. Prior to going out to purchase a replacement unit, I would like to be assured that Royal's products are of a better durability than the Royal which we presently had purchased from Costco. There are two reasons why we are really disappointed that we did not receive a longer life of this unit, first the waste of money and secondly that our landfills sites are being indulged with products that are a result of our throw away world. We have always treated this shredder with utmost care and therefore should have served us for many more years as this is a home and much is being shredded.

Shredder is beginning to jam up. Found broken plastic pieces coming from the roller area. Sounds like it ready to stall out. Only had for less than a year and it does not get a whole lot of use in small home office enviroment. Not very pleased with the performance, looks like i will need a new one.

Gears seem to be skipping. which of the 2 gears is most likely to wear? the one on the armature? or the big disk one?

If one gear is damaged it is causing damaging to the other, whether you can see it or not. If you have teeth that are skipping, the gear with bad teeth will wear out the teeth on the other gear. You should always replace both gears. On your polisher, the small drive gear isn't on the armature, it's part of the armature (Makita part number 515266-4) and that's a $90 to $110 part to replace. The spiral bevel gear (Makita part number 227455-6) is $40 to $45. You can replace one or the other but the gear you leave in will only wear out the new one.

Harley g/box bearing failure

as with any mass produced product it is almost inevitable that you will get som duds however the most important thing to remember withany bearing instalation isa to kep them perfectly square to the mating surfaces wich from you description of ther instalation you have done heating the cases & dropping the bearings in is the prefered method all said & done it would appear that you have unfortunately got a dud from past experience with harley they wont warranty their parts unless they were installed by a dealership your cheapest replacement alternative is to remove the offending bearing take it to a bearing supply company & have them match it up for regards geoff

I have a 1984 honda vf1000 motorcycle and 2nd gear is going do I have to replace all the gears or just 2nd gear

Replace gears in sets, the bad gear and the gear it meshes with. In what way is 2nd gear going bad? The gear may be fine and the shift fork is the problem.

Google " vintage honda motorcycle parts " and google " honda motorcycle salvage " for parts.
