have you tried entering in safe mode by tapping F8 as the laptop starts up, if so what does it do in safe mode.

There seems to be an issue with your Operating System. Please try the following :

  1. Boot the computer in Safe mode
  2. Do a system restore
  3. Restart in normal mode
If this does not work you might need to repair your Operating System.

Was something installed recently that may have contributed to the blanking? Try restoring to a restore point from a backup or press F8 at startup and select last known good configuration.

If a graphics change or maybe screen resolution change was done that may have cause blanking, you can launch in safe mode (F5 at startup) and change the video drivers or screen resolution to correct problem.

I sign in into my microsoft windows login for my laptop then usually it shows my home screen and desk top but its just plain black now

when you first power up the laptop, if you see the texts, your screen is most likely OK, if not the screen is bad. if you get to windows and the login, the lptop is probably swithced to an external monitor, switch it back and see if that doesn't fix it.

Cq56-115dx boots to black screen

Your thinking along the right lines, first of all check the laptop using an external monitor, if you get the same problems on an external monitor it is likely to be mainboard/GPU fault. If display is fine on an external monitor I would recommend taking the laptop apart and check the LCD cable is connected correctly as the first port of call. If that doesn't cure your issues I would look at replacing the LCD cable, then maybe the screen.

Computer on with a black screen

Sounds like the backlight or the inverter that runs the backlight in the screen is faulty. You can connect it to an ordinary external monitor which should show the picture correctly as long as there is nothing else wrong.

There should be a socket on the left hand side I think with 15 pin holes, thats the monitor connector. If it does work ok then you will need to take the laptop to a technician to replace the faulty part/s in the screen.

Hello, My laptop turns on and begins to start up but then goes to a black screen instead of the home login screen. What should I do?

If the normal login in screen is still partially visible under a bright light, you may have a faulty backlight. Get your machine checked.
The way to work around it could be to wait until the computer has started up (look at the hard drive light) and then put your machine into standby by closing the lid or pressing the power button (according to your settings). When you start back up again the screen should turn on as normal.
