Tough Nuts.

Sometimes, you can send it back to TI and ask them to fix the screen. This happened to my first, beloved TI-85, and there's nothing else to help.

My TI-83 Plus has a black screen, and changing the contrast and the batteries does not fix the problem.

If you've dropped it recently, there's a chance the screen is messed up. Hitting the back of the calculator firmly may fix the problem, but otherwise there is little you can do to fix the problem other than taking it to somebody who can fix it for you, or buying a new one.

My calculator suddenly won't turn on anymore and the batteries are fine. I think that someone messed up my calculator so that it won't turn on.

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we'll go on from there.

When I try to divide 2 numbers (like 24 / 78) the calculator displays the answer as a fraction (4/13). What did I mess up?

Press MODE to bring up the Calculator Modes screen. Press C to get to the CAS Modes Screen. On the third line, check either (or both) of "Numeric" and "Approx" (use the arrows to move to the setting and press C to check/uncheck). Press ENTER twice to save the settings.

Horizontal lines obstructing the second half of the ti 83 calculator screen, anyone know repair tips?

I had the same prob with vertical lines on the screen, and getting messed up when there was lots of numbers on the screen.

Solution: Change your batteries. Put some freshies in then adjust your contrast until you see the little black box. If you still have a problem with the lines, darken the screen until it's black (2nd up repeatedly) and let it sit for a couple minutes. Lighten your screen back to normal (2nd down) and turn off then turn her back on.
