Zoom Stuck in telephoto mode: I have a Canon HV20 HD DV camcorder. It is stuck in the telephoto zoom mode. It will not zoom in our out. I try to zoom both with the lever on the camera top and with the...

The most likely cause for this is a zoom lens out of place or impaired in some way. This will require disassembling the camera to remove the lens assembly and then disassembling the lens block to repair. This can be done fairly inexpensively but it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

My canon elura 60 digital video camcorder doesn't zoom in and out. it seems to be stuck

Sometimes a smack around the edge of the lens will work. If it doesn't, then it might be a motor issue and will need to be taken apart.

Zoom is stuck

Zoom assy may be defective or problem with the lens. Try moving the zoom lever back and forth a few times. Sometimes, something in the lens will get stuck and it just takes a little repetition to get it "unstuck". If this does not work, you will have to have it repaired by an experienced technician.

According to its specifications, this lens can use a 72mm filter. So you should be able to get the type lens cap that clips into a 72mm filter to work. Such as the one shown here. I'd recommend you go to a local camera store and try one to make sure it works.

White Spot

If this white spot is always exactly the same, but moves off the picture when you start to digital zoom and not optical zoom, there is probably something on the sensor. You mentioned that when zooming, eventually it moves. Are you in digital zoom mode at that time? (The switchover from optical to digital zoom is automatic, but you can disable it). Is this white spot blurry or sharp? Can you see fringes of the image at the edges? (This would suggest something on the lens).
If there is a piece of dust inside the lens ,you may be able to see it looking down the lens. How big is this spot?
Either way, if the camera is new, can you still return it?

Problem with Canon XL1S lens

Definitely sounds like there is a problem with the lens. You might be able to get a new one, from canon, considering they have a lifetime warranty on all of their Lenses. Otherwise, it seems that you will have to spend some money.

Lens failing to function properly

Possibility is two. 1. If the lens contact to the body is not good so make sure the contacts are clean and position is locked completely. 2. 90% of the solution comes from repair on Main circuit in the lens. Good Luck. For further assistance go to James.

Zoom problem

Ive seen this three times and everytime its been something differant. Fist was the rocker switch was jammed. easy fix as dirt was in there. Second was a small serface maounted capacitor in the zoom interface circuit. An third never found the problem as we thought it was a limit switch in the lens itself but the customer never paid for a new lens assy so we didnt order it. Good luck
