No. All you need is to plug it in the monitor first before plug in it into the mains. The power supply of the monitor has its own capacitor that needs to be charge and the way to charge it is to plug it in to the monitor and turn it on working for at least 20 minutes. You will see the difference.

It just has 4 screws like regular power supply but is smaller. This is not a common power supply so search for smaller ones. MP4ATX30 doesn't seem to be compatible.

"power supply seems to be working?" If you had before this happened a issue where had to turn it on a few times to get it up---suspect bad caps in power supply---A look inside that will tell you if this is the issue or not. If the supply can be removed (most can) it can be examined or tested by most repair shops for little or nothing.

see attached photos of what bad caps look like in case you remove the supply to look at it.

Will 430 watt powersupply work in GT5648E?

Maybe the new Power Supply is bad. You did turn the O/I switch on the back of the Power Supply to I? O means off.

If it still does not work, try putting the old Power Supply back in just to see if it acts the same way. If so you have a motherboard issue. It's not uncommon on some computers that when the power supply goes bad, it takes the motherboard with it.

That I do not have. However the basic principles of locating bad capaictors and bad solder joints is pretty much universal. The Polaroids seem plagued with bad solder joints the most.

I have a vx900 internal power supply. Wont power on at all so I checked the caps, seems good, I tested the power supply, 11 volts out of the unit but 2.5 volts when it is reinstalled. What do I need to do...

There are two version of this monitor, one has built-in power supply, another one uses 12vdc adapter.
Adapter:
http://lcdpayless.com/productpage.php?productId=4629

The adapter is REGULATED 12vdc 6a power supply that can handle the load up to 6a, if when is has load on it and the voltage drops down to 2.5vdc, teh it is that the power supply is bad or you have shorted circuits in the monitor. You can test the power supply using 12v car lamp such as #1157 bulb to test your power supply under load.
Caps in the power supply do go bad as you can see in my pictures here:

I turn on my samsung syncmaster710 and it just has a black screen, with a faint (very faint box floating around it. is this a fualty backlight?

The backlight invertor seems to be defective.
Check the main power supply board for bad capacitors (visible damage ) and make sure that the invertor tubes do not light up for a moment when you power up the monitor ( in that case their probably is one or more light tube defective (burnt)) --

Check the power supply part no. matching. If there is adjustment potentiometer for the supply voltages try adjusting to the required level of the voltage.

You either have a faulty power supply. If you have another one try it if not I would suggest replacing the power supply.

If the fault still remains with another power supply then you have a bad connection on your system board which you will have to replace.

Hope this helps

No power at all. what and how to check

Unplug everything but the motherboard and front panel connections. Remove any cards (even the video card) and ram and see if the system comes up (you should hear error beeps and get lights). Install the ram next and retry if the power is up. At the point where the disappears you have found the bad component/ device. If no power lights with everything disconnected but the processor the power supply is bad or mother board is bad. The switch on the power supply is set for your line voltage correct?

Could be a bad component on the motherboard, not sending the correct signal to turn on the power supply. How did you test it while you had it out of the computer?
