My new lg monitor turns off every once in a while, at first it will be on without a problem for 10-15 minutes then problem comes after, it turns off and turns on after a couple of seconds.. as if it is short of power? any idea how to solve this problem?

Your monitor enter to power saving mode to prevent further damaged. It's seems you got a busted backlight inverter... Need to replaced a new one or repaired it...

Power failures can cause all types of problems, have you firstly checked the fuse in the mains plug? If that is ok then it may have blown an internal fuse in the power supply board, these are there to protect the rest of the circuit from power surges.
