When the TV is first turned on the picture is distorted and shakes (like a TV with poor reception). However, as the unit warms up the picture quality becomes more stable and clearer after apx. 5 min. and is back to normal until shut down and cooled off. The convergence IC’s adjustment’s respond to automatic and manual adjustments, so, I kind of feel the IC’s are not the problem (but, I’m not the expert). I did remove the printed circuit board to inspect for possible cracked solder area's but failed to locate any. The fact that the system performs great after a 5-min. warm-up is what bewilders me. Any help is greatly needed and I thank you for your time! Have a great Holiday!

A distorted picture display soon after the Plasma TV is powered on has two indications. First, a picture display of pixels when the TV is powered on is usual prior to signals of video movies are acquired from broadcasting station. The movie from braodcasting station should display without noticeable objects of distractions. For example, the movie displeyed on the TV without obstructions is indication that the problem is from the display set. Alternately, movies with poor capability to display on the set is indication that the media from which motion pictures are acquire from is malfucntioning. For example, a TV connected to cable network or disk network or satellite broadcasted signals with receptive compromises are diagnosable from two areas. First, a clarification from the network station that has setup connectivity of devices. Perhaps a device in the setup is malfucntioning. Second, attempting the adjust the phsical connections that are attached to the TV is capable of resoving the problem. Refer to the user guide for what is default expectation on powering on. Thereafter consul technical experts if required. Good luck
Is the onscreen menu just as distorted and are the lines across it or behind it? The pop you heard may have been a capacitor and since the TV is still powering on, it's the probably the video controller board that is on it's way out. If the onscreen menu looks fine, you maybe having a problem with the input board only so try a DVD that uses a different input and if it's poor, I would say the TV needs to have the input/output board service. If the OSD is distorted as well then it's definitely the video controller board and service is likely required.
Sony doesn't want anyone to see a poor picture on a Sony tv so they have a circuit that blanks the video if there is a weak picture or any other problem concerning picture quality. My Sony factory Instructor told me this many many years ago. I'm feeling old...but anyway you need a technician. Sorry.
