Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console

Ps2 won't read ps1 memory card

Hi, I've got a frustrating problem I hope you can help me with. I'm trying to play FFIX on my PS 2 and it won't read my PS 1 cards. I've got three different cards. One shows the data saving but, when I try to load the data, it says data corrupted. The second one only works in the second slot and it won't let me save to it. It says something to effect about the file not being checked. The last one was a card I just bought used (i've got a new one on the way). Neither side will recognize that the PS 1 card is in the slot. Here's the odd thing, I've had absolutely no problems with my PS 2 games or memory cards.

Re: ps2 won't read ps1 memory card

PS2's don't read PS1 memory cards outside of the browser screen. It can only be used as access memory. Hope this helped. As for the slots it might be only fixable by a mechanic.

I have a silver slim ps2 model number SCPH-77001. Everytime I play a ps1 game on it (which it has no problems with) it wont read my ps1 memory card. I've tried it on both slots, tried 4-5 other ps1...

You shouldnt have too. I think I know the problem. Turn on your ps2 without a game in it and it would take you to the home screen. After that go to browser with your ps1 memory card and select it. And then it should give you an option to format it. Hope this helps

My ps2 slim memory cards work on the main screen, but i'm trying to play a ps1 game and as i try to save the game, it says that there is no memory card present. I bought another card with more memory.....

You can't save PS1 games on a PS2 memory card. You need to buy a PS1 memory card to save PS1 games. The PS1 card will plug into the standard memory slot on a PS2, but the insides are different.

Mt PS2 is not reading any memory card, not even a new one. What can I do?

Take it into a games store and get them to try and fix it. (They will most likely take it in and test the console out and put one of their memory cards in and try it), and they will try to sort out the problem. =]

Want to play ps1games

I don't have that problem with mine, I have two memory cards 1 for a PS 1 & 1 for a PS2 and it depends on what game I want to play as to which memory card I put in the 1st slot! maybe your system is different but I don't have any trouble saving anything from PS 1 onto a PS 1 memory card.

I don't know if this helped any, but I sure do hope that you get your problem fixed!!

Ps1 disc playing in ps2

Are you inserting a PS2 or a PS1 memory card?
PS1 games can't use a PS2 card because they don't "understand" how to read them.
To save a PS1 game on a PS2 you will need a PS1 memory card.

I hope this helps, I assume this is what you are referring to with your question.

Playstation card

Your question is somewhat confusing, using a playstation 2 memory card, will have PS2 game saves on it, how would you play PS2 games on a PS1 from the save, you can't. If you just mean you are using a PS2 card for a PS1, the way a PS2 card saves data is different to a PS1 card, so it probably won't work You can use your PS1 memory cards in the PS2. You can only use the PS1 memory cards to save PS1 games that you are playing in your PS2. You can't save any PS2 game data to a PS1 memory card
