My dvd/cd unit stopped working on my aspire 5535.

my dvd/cd unit stopped working on my aspire 5535. according to comet it may be a windows update that caused this. i tried fixit but no joy. tried reinstalling acer repair recovery management, real pain as you have to reinstall norton, microsoft office, broadband configurations etc. this worked until windows put in loads of updates, then same problem, no dvd/cd . . . . h e l p!!
