Re: nec vcr vn-214 set up

Simplest way to connect is to use A /V cables (red/white and yellow) to connect the Audio(left and right if stereo) and Video outputs on the VCR to the same inputs ion the TV. Select the corresponding Video input on the TV's menu to watch the VCR.

Nec video recorder manual

What I would do is get a set top box that can supply a signal to the recorder. You can still set timer records, but instead of selecting a channel number set the AV that the box is connected to. Also make certain the PDC control is set to off.

Can't use VCR

There's nothing wrong with your VCR. Your remote probably set to control your TV. To fix that, simply press the VCR button on the remote, and you should be fine. The "T-U" really means "TV," but the designers at Panasonic wanted to use the standard seven-segment display to cut costs, hence "T-U" instead of "TV."

Can we tape digital feed on a VCR and play it on an HD-ready tv?

You should be able to accomplish this. Run the antenna to your converter box. Run the video and audio outputs of the digital converter box to the inputs on your vcr. Your vcr should then be able to record the program (select line-in as the channel when setting up the recording). Hook your vcr audio and video output to your tv.
It's best to use a converter box that has an event timer - this allows the converter box to turn on at a specified time and channel. Otherwise you will need to manually set the channel you wish to record on the converterbox, and leave it turned on.

VCR shows "PLAY" on machine but doesn't show on TV

If even the sound aside from the video is not reproduced on the TV, then your description "connect" indicates that the TV is not set to receive the audio/video signals from the VCR. Initially, pls try:
  • set the TV to Channel 3 (or 4); or
  • set the TV to A/V, Video 1 or Aux 1.
Additionally, you need to confirm how the VCR is hooked to the TV unit, bu a single coaxial cable or 3 cables with RCA connectors (yellow, red & white).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Broksonic VCR

It should be either ch 3 or 4, BUT the VCR must be turned on and in the "vcr" mode. There may also be an way that you can switch between tuner and Video on the VCR, it would need to be in video mode.

Hope that helps...

I cannot get program recording with timer set.

Problem seems to be related to the "write protect" tab on the tape not being sensed. Is the tab removed? That would explain things there...accordianman

You need not set your VCR to either CHs 3 or 4.  You simply have to set it to the channel that you would want to record. Further, the coax either from your cable or aerial should go straight to the VCR for it to receive any of the channels. The VCR then maybe hooked up to your TV either buy a shorter cable and this is when you set the TV to either 3 or 4. Alternately, you can use the RCA connector from your VCR to your TV.

This is a generic/compressed solution. Pls post back should you want additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
