Question about Garden

1 Answer

I own a YS 4500 Craftsman tractor (Model No. 917 287 242). It was running fine the last time I used it but then wouldn't start. No response when turning key. I checked battery with multimeter - it's fine. I think the under-the-seat circuit breaker switch has malfunctioned. What do you think?

If you think it is the seat switch you can check it with your multimeter, just unplug it and check the resistance across the switch with and without pressure on the seat where the switch is located. Another way to test would be to take a short jumper wire, unplug the switch and jump across the 2 wires in the plug, then try to start it.
I would be more inclined to think it is the fuse in your system, however. Most of the time the fuse is a plug in fuse located on the right side of the tractor, behind the back of the engine and is usually a blue (15 amp) or yellow (20 Amp)

I had the same symptom, . I checked the fuse and it was blown. I put in a new fuse and sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb. I turned the key and the mower started up. After a minute of sputtering the idle smoothed out and it is running great.

My craftsman ys 4500 just stopped pulling the engine starts and runs fine it just wont move

Check the main drive belt, and the linkages from the brake clutch pedal to the pulley that tensions the belt. If you do not find anything there, then remove the back panel, jack up the mower, and turn the transaxle pulley by hand to see if the wheels turn, make sure it is gear.

If you are lucky, it will be a slipped belt or broken belt. I hope this helps get you going.

I do believe they change plug(s) and air filter? There could be impurities and water in tank. Check for any loose electrical connections. Problem with valve clearance. Keep me informed.
