Question about Samsung HL-P5063W 50" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Screen went B&W and I hear a loud humming noise from the TV...

Just heard a "Pop" and the picture went black & white, then a humming sound started. Is this both a color wheel and bulb problem on a Samsung HLP5063W 50" DLP? John

Hi John,

If you are hearing this noises, that's your Color Wheel.
The reason fot that is because your color wheel spins 5000rpms(revolution per minute) and something that modifies the balance if the disc can cause different things.Unfortunately in order to check if your color wheel is working properly you need to open your TV and physically check out.

Grinding= Most probably the color disc is broken and you need to replace it.

Spinning / Buzzing = The bearing of the wheel is loose and is loosing its balance, eventually it will brake.

The best thing to do is to take the color wheel out and spin it ,if you feel that the disc kind of wobbles or doesn't spin smoothly you have to replace it.

You can check DM they have very good prices

Samsung plasma screen went black. Was watching tv, heard a loud pop and the screen will no longer turn on. You can hear the tv turn on but no picture. Power is still working, just a blank screen.

Issue is either with the X or Y sustain board. Look for a cap that has blown or a cracked solid state device on the board. One of them is responsible for the ***** croak you heard.

My Samsung HLN4365 tv made a loud popping noise then the picture went to black and white with a lot of interference in the screen. Also now makes a loud humming noise sometimes

You are likely to have developed a bad color wheel. Do a search on Ebay with your model number or Google the model number. This will give you a heads up if you get a TV tech to fix the set

I have a Mitsubishi 65inch tv, Model WD-60735. I heard a loud pop noise, like if something burst inside. Then the screen went black but I can still hear sound. Shortly after the sound went out. I can hear...

Check your lamp. This is a common problem in projections. Sometimes there is a lamp door and two screws holding it in. you can physically see if it is bad. itll be shattered or have rings aorund it. anything that doesnt look right. If your lamp is fine then you may have blown a fuse or diode or ic chip..theres really a lot to go wrong. I would then take it to a repair shop.

Please take the time to rate. Thanks:]

Picture is black and white

Does it sound like thin grinding noise?
The color wheel is very common problem. Color wheel for this model is about $100 to $150 plus labor.

Pop sound then no picture, just sound

I assume this is a plasma TV? You will have a fuse blown on either the Y or Z sutain board, there is also a possibility one of the driver IC's has blown on the buffer board, this will shut down the screen & leave the audio working normally. You can check these boards which sit on the left & right hand sides of the screen.

No picture or sound

Hi, your color wheel needs to be replaced, the bearings fail causing the grinding noise, the new ones use "air bearings" so they are supposed to last much longer, video-tek
