Try removing the battery, reboot. Try another Power cord/charger with the EXACT same power specs. Clean the Fan and Vents with a Can of Compressed Air. Does it fully boot , then shut down?

Compaq Presario laptop C300 - issues (orange light)

Sometimes when a PC gets stuck in hibernation mode, the only way to reset it is to remove the CMOS battery for 10 minutes and replacing it. It resembles a large watch battery and is usually located near the center of the motherboard.

C300 Switches off

The Compaq C300 laptop most likely is overheating and shutting down (ie thermal overload) and will not bootup again until it has cooled down. If this is not fixed eventually the CPU will fail.
The overheating is caused by a faulty fan and/or dust clogging the heatsink and fan assembly.
Check the fan to see if it spins freely (replace the fan if it is faulty) and use a stiff brusk to loosen the dust from the fan and heatsink and vacuum the dust from the fan and heatsink.
If you remove the fan assembly from the CPU then apply fresh thermal paste to the heatsink pad before placing it over the CPU.
The laptop should be placed on a flat surface so the vents are not obstructed. You can also place the laptop on a fan assisted base to provide additional cooling.

I got a really annoying fan noise, can I fix it without replacing the fan?

Try cleaning it, probably full of dirt.
If that doesnt work then the motor is gone, fans are not that expensive

Heating and performance problems on my Aspire 5520

We had the same problem with the same model. The problem is that the side openings in the fan assembly tend to get plugged with dust. Take the back cover off, and then take the few screws off the covering for the fan assembly. It'll likely be plugged with dust. Get a small brush (like for an electric razor), and just brush the dust off. That will solve the problem. or redo the paste on the cpu with some arctic silver
check the fan and h/sink are clear of dust
see if they have a full manual you can download on the acer site giving an exploded view of the laptop

Laptop problem

the laptop is full of dust and fluff and needs cleaning before real damage is done because of overheating, buy a can of compressed air and blast it through the vents and the fan area, if you feel adventuous open the laptop up and clean it manually with a soft, clean paintbrush

Extremely loud fan at high fan speeds

If you remove the hard drive bay and memory bay underneath the laptop, you should be able to see the fan attached to the motherboard, if not completely remove the bottom section of the notebook, you may find that there is a build up of dust on the phone, hoover this off gently, you may find a big difference as dust causes fan imbalance

yes its probably the fan but it could also be the screen brightness. replacing the fan and turning down the brightness will cool the laptop. but i agree try a new fan first.
