Question about Saws

1 Answer

I have an old circular saw that is all metal housing and was a two wire cord. It looks like there should've been a wire going to the switch and the other to the motor winding?

Where do you wire power cord on skil circular saw 5400 to switch

Very easy to tell the short wires go to the cord side. The longer ones go to the motor. The wire will be same color as the cord wires. They will come from the back of the switch as it sets in saw.

Skil HD77 that blows breaker no matter which plug in I use. This saw was bought on e-bay and does not appear to have abused except for new plug on very short cord. I checked end of plug and it appeaers to...

there is a direct short somewhere, recheck the plug end for correct wiring and if OK then it is in the cord or the motor itself, I would think the cord or plug first.

No power when i squeeze the trigger on the hd77

Troubleshoot the problem. It could only be a few things: 1) defective trigger/switch, in which case you can replace it by getting the part from a specialty tool store; 2) the cord itself, either where it plugs into the saw or at the plug end there may be a loose wire; 3) you've accidentally cut or nicked the cord--easily done--and there is a severed wire.

I'm trying to replace the power cord on my circular skilsaw. How do you get the wires from the old cord to release from the trigger switch?

using a paper clip straighten one end and insert next to wire and push down and while doing so lift the wire out.

I sawed the power cord in half...! It was a skil saw brand But obviously I am 'unskilled'... The saw cost about $65. Can this be repaired or should I get a new saw...?

Yes it can be repaird. No offense, but can you do it? Take handle appart, may have torx screws, and remove old cord. You can buy a new exact replacement cord or a generic cordset to replace. Check wire size on your old cord.

there should be screws on the housing to open up to the cord connections...and there are screw type connectors to disconnect the old cord and connect the new cord

I need to replace cut electric chord on saw 6390-20

I would go to Milwaukeetool.com and download a breakdown for this tool. But all you have to do is remove the screws holding the handle assembly to expose the switch area and cord. I think they are a T-20 Torx, after removing the half make a note of the wiring before removing the old cord. trim the leads using the old cord as a guide and reinstall. what you want to do is when you reinstall the screws back them until you feel the first thread so you don't rethread it. These are thread forming screws and after a time they will strip out the threads. It is really quite simple

12 inch compound miter saw wont turn on anymore, was working earlier.

Could be the trigger switch or the power cord connection. For the switch pop the housing and disconnect the switch and hot wire the wires that went to the switch for a second and the motor will kick on or not. If not then the switch is not the problem. With the cord make sure your outlet is working then wiggle the cord.IF the saw was working before, these two things are the problem. If the saw was sparking alot while using it then it's the brushes and if run to long like this the motor is shot!

My saw is just making a clicking noise when i depress the lock off button and trigger switch, can't get it to work.

You either have a break in the cord or the switch is open (broken electrical circuit). Sometimes the cord will get pinched or wound and the wires inside will break. A quick way to test a cord is to crimp the cord in your hand the entire length from the plug to the handle while holding the switch in the on position. If there is a break somewhere crimping the cord should make contact for a couple of seconds and you will get some power to the saw. The best way to check is to use a multi meter to check the continuity of the cord. You will have to remove the switch from the housing and use your meter on the cord. Set your meter to the ohms function and test the continuity of the load and line wires. (Touch one lead of the meter to the blade and the other to the corresponding wire that goes into the switch. Hint the polarized blade side - wide side- is the white wire and the smaller blade is the black wire.) If you have continuity through the wire you can check the switch next. Locate where the cord wires go into the switch and the other two wires that come out. Test at these two points while depressing the switch. If you have continuity in the switch and the cord you need to check the carbon brushes to see if they are worn or broken. If you need any assistance please post back and I will help.

Replacing a worn out cord on my old black and decker worm drive saw. Where do the white black and green wires from the new cord go? The terminal on the switch only have a 1 and 2 printed on them.

YOU HAVE 5 WIRES
2 FROM MOTOR
3 NEW WIRE
1 FROM THE MOTOR AND
1 FROM THE CORD SHOULD BE JOIN TOGETHER.
THE OTHER FROM THE MOTOR SHOULD BE JOIN TO THE SWITCH ALONG WITH THE OTHER WIRE FROM THE POWER CORD
AND THE GREEN WITH YELLOW LINES
IS TO GROUND TO ANY METAL ON THE SAW.
