Will not install XP

Every time I try to install the OS it goes so far and simply stops (sticks, does not accept further keyboard input etc). Shortly thereafter the fan powers down. Any suggestions?

Wont start

If you're not getting a beep code then you can be almost certain the problem does not lie with any of your hardware aside from your CPU.

It is possible your CPU is overheating, in which case you can try to increase the fan speed in the CMOS setup. For further troubleshooting I recommend using isopropyl alcohol to remove the old thermal paste from the heatsink and CPU die, and apply a new, small, pea-sized dab of thermal paste to the CPU die (after which you remount and lock into place the heatsink and CPU fan).

Sometimes these startup problems are very simple, and since you said the fan slows down rather than stopping, it could simply be you have a loose connection somewhere. I'd start with the PSU cables for the motherboard and CPU, and then the fan-monitoring plugs on the motherboard.

Also, it never hurts to load the default CMOS setup, and if you have any expansion cards you'll want to reseat all of them.

You would need about 1000 floppies to store Windows XP. You need to go into the BIOS and select the primary boot drive to optical(cd). Then restart with the windows disc in the CD drive. Floppies haven't been needed to install the OS since Windows 98.

P 3 with 256 sd ram,not able to install xp

It is struggling to install a driver. reformat the hard drive when you have the option (Fat 32 or NTFS which is better) and try again. If it still fails then remove usb devices except for keyboard and mouse if they are usb. Remove and add on cards and install on a basic system. If the install still fails then you have a corrupt hard drive or corrupt install disk. you can start the computer using the install disk and selecting recovery console to give you an dos screen. At the prompt type chkdsk and let it look for errors.

USB port does not recognise USB hard disk

Hi, you probably need to partition and format the drive, this can be done by removing it from the USB case and connecting it directly to the IDE or Sata connector, but first try using the disc managment system if running windows XP its located in the control panel within the administrative tools button, here is a helpful link that goes into detail about how to do this. link if not using XP google disc managment for your OS and partition and format the drive so windows can detect it.

HP Printer Conflict

Perform a clean and "No bloated" installation of the hardware.
Uninstall ALL the HP printer software, disconnect the PSC and reboot the computer.
When windows finish to load, connect the PSC again, the new hardware wizard will show up, follow the instructions with the HP Installation disk in the drive.
IMPORTANT: When a silver sand glass show up in the screen, CANCEL the installation of the HP software (this is by clicking "CANCEL" button or by no accepting the license terms). This will install only the PSC Drivers and nothing else.
Try printing again.
