Squeaky kitchen hood

The bearings in the fan motor either need to be lubed, or have burnt out. Give them a good greasing and if noise keeps up replace

KitchenAid KHTU160KSS Kitchen Hood makes noise

Remove the fan and motor assembly from the hood (the fan motor will plug into the hood housing) and using an electrical motor cleaner (such as CRC electrical motor cleaner available from your local auto parts store) wash the motor and fan as completely as possible, lubricate the end bearings (sparingly) with a very light oil such as sewing machine oil, gun oil or as a last resort 3 in 1 oil. Hope this helps.

I have a 4 year old RM5200 hood over my stove. The motor is making a whining noise. It seems to soon for this to happen. It is loud and constant to the point where we don't want to use it. Is it time...

Range hood motors, bathroom exhaust fan motors all share the same thing. They become coated with grime inside the shaft of the rmotor due to their exhaust feature of sucking dust and grime over the motor, which is open. The only solution is to get access to the motor and clean the fan blades and squirt a little WD-40 down the shaft as that is where the noise comes from. The dirt and grime build up on the motor shaft, and eventually starts rubbing the bushing where the shaft rest and makes a noise. Yo must remove this from the shaft and allow a little play, and lubrication which the WD-40 will supply.

My blower makes a grinding noise when I advance it to the higher speeds. Can this be fixed?

It sounds like the bearings are going in the fan if it is not rubbing. You cannot replace the bearings but you could buy a replacement fan after verifying it is the culprit

the fan blade may be loose on the motor shaft there is a set screw on the blade center you can tighten (it needs to be very snug)

Range vent damper noise

Check to make sure that the installer completely untaped the damper when he installed it. It needs to be able to move freely.

Viking hood damper

Remove the blower and reach up into the duct through the back flow damper and put weather stripping on the 2 edges that are chattering, it will greatly reduce the noise

Flap valve and noise

The flapper valve is a weather valve. Usually, it is installed in such a way that the flapper is vertical and closed. The pipe is installed on the horizontal...you'll need an EL pipe. Pivots allow it to open when the fan is on. If you don't install it, wind will blow into the unit and you will be rather unhappy.

It is possible that the sound you hear is normal when opened up. With all the covers in place, it should be nearly silent.
