Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a refrigerator with a top freezer. The freezer is not working - it is Frost Free and there is FROST! Model number is RB170PH. There is build up - nothing is freezing and the refrigerator is not cold enough. THe knob to turn the freezer colder or hotter is not working. My superintendent told me to shut it down to defrost it the old fashioned way. Please help! Cindy Luzon

Hi cindy,
when you plug it back in, can you hear fan in the freezer, you may have to hold a door switch in so the light goes out, if you cant hear the fan, thats it
but if you can, check your door seals on both doors do they close well and air tight
if they do
you have a defrost issue, it is either the heater, timer or termminator,
sorry icant be more specific

LG 262SQA Model fridge cannot cool

That does not look like an LG model number, but regardless, it sounds like the defrost system is not working, allowing frost to build up and block air flow over the cooling coils in the freezer (where all the cooling for the entire refrigerator takes place). Take back panel off inside freezer, melt frost / ice with a hair blower. Test for continuity through defrost heater and replace if "open". If it was OK, problem could be deftost control, or as simple as a door not fully closed at some time, allowing excessive frost build up.

Top refridgerator not working...no airflow. Could it be a fan? Freezer is still working.

Yes , it is possible but you must be able to remove the freezer compartment to see if the frost has bitten into or if the frost has worned out the wires. If fan is not working then replace but if frost has build up defrost and check after shutting off fridge ffor some hours. If the frost builds up then there is a fault with the auto defrost timer, check also the heater.
Check also the vent for free flows of the fans blowing.

Fridge not cool enough but frosty at the back

Since you are getting frost in you frost free refrigerator, tell me that the defrost circuit has a problem. It is made of a defrost timer/module, defrost heater and defrost thermostat. What should happen is that the defrost timer should periodically turn off the compressor for about 30 minutes and turn power to the defrost heater via the thermostat. The heater is attached to the evaporator coil and melts any frost build up on those coils.

It sounds like the defrost circuit has not been working for a while because the ice build up is not allowing the air to circulate around the coils to cool the refrigerator. The typical failures to the defrost circuit are the defrost timer motor fails to advance, or the defrost heater burns out. Hope this helps you.

your freezer is getting frost because the door is not closing all the way. Make the necessary adjustments to the door so that it gets a good seal and the frost should stop

HELP ME

Remove back wall from inside freezer and melt all frost with a hair blower. The most likely cause of the frost build up is a burnt out defost heater, second most likely cause is the defrost control. Can't give you part numbers because you don't list a model number or even a brand. Melting the frost and not fixing the underlying problem will get your refrig working for a week or so until the frost builds up again.

Refrigerator is barley cold, still makes ice, condensation inside of frostless freezer

Hi: The fact that it still makes ice tells me the freezer is a zero degrees. When you said condensation in the freezer did you mean frost? If your defrost heater fails it will cause the frost free freezer to build up frost. The frost will build up and block the vent that supplies the cold air to the fresh food. The defrost heater is behind the metal wall at the back of the freezer, at the very bottom. A glass tube with a metal coil in it. The coil can break and stop the defrosting. Replace that. Use a hair dryer to melt the frost from behind the panel. All of it top to bottom. You need to remove all the frost to free up the airways. I hope this helps, Jeff

Fridge wont stay cold in the bottom.

Your frost free is not defrosting properly. There should be no ice buildup in the freezer section. Frost in the freezer section stops air circulation to the refrigerator section.
