Question about ViewSonic VA520 15" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
When I plug in monitor, it will not light up, screen remains black.
What is your monitor is it lcd or crt? is the power on indicator of the monitor lights up? which is usually a color green, if it lights up, try to reset the vga cable of your monitor to the video card of your pc and this time do it tightly but not too tight. But if the power on indicator does not light up, the problem lies within your monitor. Have your monitor be check by a professional technician.

This is the common bad capacitor problem. The caps have died inside, and they can be replaced. If you have basic electronics skills, you can go in, order replacement caps, and unsolder and resolder. If you can't do it yourself, you can take it into a shop.
Here is a link to the Cap plague that explains what happens in detail. But I repair these all the time with that symptom.
