Question about Kenmore 34612 Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Pushing it feels like someone keeps pressing a brake

Ok, I'm sure this may sound odd but I'll do my best to describe the problem. I have a 30612 which I think is very similar to the 34612. When I push it on the carpet or on the wood floor it feels like a brake is being applied on and off repeatedly. In other words, it's hard to push and then easy to push. In about a four to five foot push it will be easy-hard-easy-hard-easy-hard. Sounds goofy, right? This will repeat no mater what conidtion. It doesn't matter if the vac is on or off, or if the lower housing is released or not. I think it's either the inside diameter of the wheels have worn to a point that they are sloppy and twist out of alignment or the wheel shaft is not being held properly by the plastic dust housing (due to wear) and it allows the wheels to rub on it.

Anyone seen this before?

Had the exact smae issue. The wheels are rubbing on the base of the unit. This is due to wear of the wheel hub and slop on the two retaining clips that hold the wheel shaft. I was going to buy new wheels but they were a little pricey so I wedged a washer between the wheel shaft and plastic body. This placed the wheels further away from the plastic base and made it "push" like new. I can send a photo of you like. Just email me.

Well what you said about the wheels could be the problem. But it also could be the belt, if it hasn't been changed, or is a few months old, it may have stretched so as not to turn the brush roll, whitch would make push hard. The brush roll is what will pull the vacuum, so if the belt is bad, or the bristles of the brush roll are worn down, they need replacing.

Head wont work even though i keep trying to press the button for carpets not hard floor.no hairs are trapped around it

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC25. Your cleaner is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brushbar if it gets tangled with a rug fringe, shoelace etc. After making sure the brushbar is free of threads, hair or other obstructions, you'll be able to reset the cleaner and get the brushbar running again. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1156&product=DC25-ALLFLOORS

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the silver brush control switch located next to the red on/off switch.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and will be able to recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). If it's necessary to replace the cleaner head, this should be covered by our 5-year warranty, as long as the cleaner has been used in accordance with the terms and conditions described in the user guide.

Kind regards,

Jack

First make sure that brush roll is moving not broken belt....if all ok then try setting height for thick pile carpet lift head a bit this will ease off on a thinner carpet and in turn make it easy to push,

The On/Off button and floor selection buttons are blinking when the vacuum is running. The vacuum seems to be working fine but that seems odd that the lights are blinking.
