Question about Singer 3116 Simple

1 Answer

I have a simple singer 2263. I have now realized I had it threaded wrong, but ended up with a large jam in the bobbin/shuttle area. I removed the shuttle - any pictures or instruction on how to replace? Thanks.

Oddly, this came up when i googled" troubleshoot singer 2263". but since I'm here...

This expenxive knick knack is a joke, except it's not funny.

We should get Michael Moore to make a movie. Singer sould be ashamed of themselves. The brand our grand & great grandmother's ached for & 90% of could not manage to purchase.

What with pandemics, wars & depression (not the type treated by Celebrex)

I got 1 for Christmas, YAY (I thought)

It worked exactly 92 days, (warranty is 90, & parts only)

Singer (who do not deserve to have their name capatalized) said take it to a singer dealer, ($80.00 to look @ , machine cost $90.00, later saw it on sale for $68.73).

The vendor did exchange it,

I took this exact replacement home, set it up, never sewed 1 stitch.

The bobbin thread was wrapping around the spool pin.

The box was gone, the receipt inside.

I took it back the next day. Vendor would not exchange.

So I''m going in...this was not my plan.

If I can't get it, I'm going to small claims court, as I do have proof of purchase on per my credit card.

I'll be back!

Upper thread on embroidery machine jamming machine, and ending up with a bird's nest in the bobbin area.

Upper threading is wrong. Thread could be catching on the end of the spool. What machine are you using?

Bobbin tread bunches and jams machine

If the bobbin is inserted with the thread spinning the wrong direction this will cause "birdnesting" - thread build up under needle plate, you need to cut thread to get the item off machine. flip the bobbin over into the case and try again. Also make sure you remove ALL thread caught up in "Birdsnest" when they happen.

My sewing machine is jammed the needle will not go up or down nor does the wheel

Stop! Get your camera/cell phone or whatever. Take pictures at each of these steps (to refer to later)

Remove the needle and presser foot (use scissors to cut threads if necessary)

Remove the plates under the presser foot that cover the bobbin and needle through area. Clean any thread/lint, etc from under there.

Get magnifying glass and inspect for additional bits of thread or needle ends that have broken off.

If necessary remove the shuttle race and inspect for burrs, cracks, etc.

replace everything and try moving the handwheel. If it works, it's good to go. If it doesn't take it in.

Now... when you begin sewing any seam. ALWAYS grasp both threads as you begin sewing. This will keep jams from happening and it is a good sewing habit.

Singer 2263 will not sew because bobbin thread winds back around the bobbin

have you tried changing the needle?
rethread the machine top & bobbin
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case & also wound correctly

Where to oil my singer 2263 ?

The 2263 only needs oil on the hook race (below the bobbin case). The complete cleaning procedure for this area is, with the needle fully up, remove the bobbin case and rotate the arms that hold the hook outwards. Remove the hook cover and the hook. Wipe the area under the hook cover and hook with a soft cloth. Put 1-2 drops of sewing machine oil just to the right of the center of this area. Rotate the hand wheel until the hook race is on the left side of the bobbin area. Then replace the hook and hook cover. Snap the arms back towards the center and insert the bobbin in the bobbin case.

With the bobbin out and the needle up, you should also unscrew the faceplate and wipe the feed dogs with your machine brush. (For best results, clean this before you oil. If you do not do this first, you may brush lint and bits of thread into the hook race and risk jamming this part.)

For pictures, see http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1213_oiling-2263.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Singer 2263 instruction manual does not show where to lubricate or how to adjust the hook which keep jamming

First make sure that the needle is fully up. Then you need to open the hinged front cover and unscrew the needle plate screws. Remove the bobbin. Brush out any lint now. Remove the bobbin case. Then snap the hook retaining arms outwards. Remove the hook cover and hook. Put no more than 2 drops of sewing machine oil on the the case (center right hand side). Then turn the hand wheel until the hook race is in the left position. Replace the hook and then the hook cover. Snap the hook retaining arms back into position. Replace the bobbin case and bobbin. Then replace the stitch plate.

Test the machine on a piece of waste fabric. If the hook keeps jamming, take the machine in for maintenance. The parts that may need to be replaced are the race or the shuttle hook. However without seeing the unit I do not know if there is not another problem. Some parts for the 2263 are available here: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/singer-2263-sewing-machine-parts.aspx .

Singer has a second manual available with the oiling instructions for the 2263 here: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1213_oiling-2263.pdf . See the diagrams on this page for where things line up. The rest of the instruction manual is also online here: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1180_2263%28eng_spa_fre%29.pdf .

I hope this helps.

I have a SINGER 2263. I've used this machine less than ten hrs. I have a jam, I've cleaned everything. The machine will turn un-restricted in reverse but forward half a cycle. The needle will either...

With the machine unplugged, remove the bobbin case and the shuttle mechanism. Clean and oil it. Check for any fabric or threads in your feed dogs. Change needles in case that one is bent slightly. If the jam was really bad, you may have messed up the timing, unfortunately.

My Featherweight 221 is ticking, ticking, ticking. It ticks with/or without the bobbin, needle or needle plate. What can I do? Kathy

Remove the bobbin case, put a drop of "sewing machine oil" into the area between where the outer shuttle is turning and the inner shuttle (the part that has the pin sticking out that the bobbin case fits onto.) Also check to see if there is a thread jam in that area. Do not remove or loosen any screws.
