No, not the way you want it to. The wan(internet) port on the 2701 is an rj-11 that will only connect to a phone line with DSL service. There is no way to use this as a router with your cable modem. You need a router that has an ethernet (rj45) port as the wan port.

Put tinfoil over your splice connectors and filters as they leak signals that totally confuse your modem. Never leave any bare wires, I tinfoil the entire modem to prevent the neighbors from hacking me. I don't use wireless, only CAT5 ethernet cable.

I have an at&t 2wire 2701hg-b but i dont have at&t internet i have charter and i am not able to figure out how to get my internet to work with this router please help

att 2 wire is a Adsl Modem (Requires a telephone line jack to get the signals) but charter communication is a cable internet service (not DSL) , Requires a TV cable service for internet .
These two jacks differs and there working differs ..
Means : Att works with the username and password type of authentication but charter requires the MAC address of modem for authentication .
Therefore for a cable internet 2wire 2701hg-b modem cant be used . But yes in case charters has username and password authentication and works with the telephone jack in house then its possible to use the same modem.

Can I use AT&T 2701HG-B 2W Wireless Gateway DSL

yes, you can use them together. they'll find each other at protocol layer 2 (bridge) and layer 3 (router),
and route packets appropriately. Check their manuals to make sure that their HTTP management page ip addresses are different - say 192.168.0.0 for one router and 192.168.1.1 for the other - so that you
can manage them separately without disconnecting them.
You'll want to manage them separately to assign them different wireless-N channels. Channel 6 is
the default, and allowing both to compete on the same channel is a bad idea - give each its own
wi-fi channel. There are 11 wireles 802.11n channels, labeled 1-11.

Diagram: DSL === AT&T 2701HG-B ---------- NetGear router --------------- desktop computer

Each link in the diagram above is an ethernet (802.3 10baseT) cable (except the DSL cable,
which is twisted pairs), and wireless devices can
hop onto the Internet by wirelessly connecting to either the AT&T 2701 or the NetGear router.

It will not connect to internet. The ip address is not changing automatically even though I have checked to assign automatically.

Try power cycling the router -- disconnect power for at least two minutes (just to be safe), then reconnect power. It should realize that it does not have an address and request a new one. It is also a good idea to power cycle any cable modem or DSL modem at the same time. First power up the cable or DSL modem, and after it has initialized itself, then reconnect the wireless router to power.

Change password

If you are looking to change the system password

go to the router page go to system and go to system password and change the password

if you dont know to access the router page
Open a browser and enter 192.168.1.254 and hit enter
Enter the username and password to access the router settings page

This should work for 2701hg-b Modem/Router
If 1701 or 1800 use 192.168.1.254 or try 172.16.0.1

do you also have AT&T? att2wire 2701hg-b gateway is configured to work with AT&T only that's why if you have a different ISP, it will not work for you. Most ISPs provide modems that are configured solely for their service.

Can I use 2WIRE 2701HG-B router in COX internet connection

No. A router has 2 main interface types WAN (for the internet connection side, and LAN (for the home network side) the 'LAN' side often has up to 4 ports and wireless connectivity for the home network.

The most common routers available at electronics retail use a CAT-5 connection for the WAN ports and the LAN ports. Your DSL modem/router uses a phone line input for it's WAN port, which uses a signal type that is incompatible with the cable modem output.

If COX doesn't offer a router with the cable modem package, you can go and purchase and common brand of home networking router, and attach it to the output of the cable modem.

Actually, I believe that's a 2-wire 2701HG DSL modem you're referring to, possibly rebranded as a Speedstream. If so, then the answer is yes, there's a router in it.
