Ok. Please check your device manager if you have all drivers for your sound card. 1. Right Click My Computer, Click Properties, Click Hardware Tab, then Click Device Manager. Make sure that all ITEMS under SOUND have no yellow ? in them which means that all drivers are installed and is working properly.

Now, make sure also that your speaker plug (jack) is plugged in the right port in your sound card. There are three ports, speakers usually plug into the green (middle) port depending on your card manufacturer. Anyhow, you can test it by playing a music and plugging the speaker to any of the ports.

Lastly, while your speakers are plugged into the right port, follow this to check sounds:
1. Click Start => RUN
2. Type "dxdiag" (without qoutes) and press ENTER
3. DirectX Diagnostic Tools window opens. Now, Navigate to the Sounds and Music Tabs and perform the tests there.

Hoppefully, you will hear the sounds and/or learn more about the cause of your sound problems.

Speakers wont come on

Lets start with the basics.
1. Make sure the power cord to the computer speakers are plugged in. Check at the wall and make sure the power cord is connect to the back of the speaker. If there is a power button make sure it is pressed in the on position. Make sure the volume level is turned up.
2. Check the computer and make sure the sound is not on mute. Turn the volume level up from the computer settings.
3. Try playing some music. If you hear sound you are good to go.
4. If you are not able to hear anything than continue. I would suggest plugging your speakers into you cell phone. Try playing some music from your cell phone.
5. If music plays through the speakers from your cell phone, something is wrong with the computer. If no sound plays with your cell phone then something is wrong with the speakers.
6. If worse comes to worse bring your computer into a computer store. Tell the salesman you want to buy a new set of speakers. You just want to make sure your computer works with the speakers before you buy them.
7. If all else fails, ask a local tech you trust.

Static coming from speakers

Not much information here but I will try my best, could be a problem with the cable your using between the speakers and the mp3 player, you could have a dry joint, if it's like a "hum" sound your getting it's a bad ground, without the mp3 playing plugged in tap the end of the stereo minijack cable with the speakers turned up? hear the 50hz buzz - if the interference sounds the same it's most likely a bad cable or bad connector on the speakers. I would need to either hear the interference to determine what fault it is or if you can describe it better i.e. what it sounds like.

My computer keeps saying there is something wrong with my sound card or audio device does that mean that it is something internal. I've tried the troubleshooting and even tried the control pannel settings.

if you cant hear anything coming out of your computer speakers there is something wrong here what to do
if your computer came with a disk the sound drivers could be on it
control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers or audio you will find 3 drop down lists make the necessary adjustments there or control
panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager, sound video and game controllers could be a yellow question mark? right click to re-install drivers
hope this helps
