Question about Computers & Internet

I want to establish home network for my HP Pavilion ze4220. It has a network adapter (dp83815/816 10/100 MacPhyte PCI Adapter) and a PMCIA Adapter (O2 Micro O026912 Cardbus Controller). 1) Can I use a wireless router with the PC as is? Or do I need to attach a UBS Network card? 2) What kind of wireless router would you recommend? Thanks. Kanak

    Thanks.

I would like to us a USB ethernet adapter (as installing a PMCIA ethernet card may require more skills than I have).

I have heard that you good best results when the ubs ethernet adapter and the wireless router are compatible (same manufacturer and standard protocol for both, or at least same standard protocol for both). Is this true? Could you give me an example of a usb ethernet adapter fully compabtible with a wireless router?

    Thanks again.

I am pretty sure the O2 Micro adapter is a wireless card, although it's a fairly uncommon / obscure one. As long as it does basic wireless you will be good to go with it, otherwise you will need a USB wireless card like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FJJASO?ie=UTF8&tag=dependascient-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000FJJASO

And then as far as a router goes, there are a few great options out there, but the best deal currently would be the linksys one here :

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014J07R2?ie=UTF8&tag=dependascient-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0014J07R2

That is regarded as one of the best routers on the market in that price range. It doesn't show you the actual price until you add it to your cart, long story why they do that, but just so you know, the price is $45.99 on this one. Free shipping and no tax of course.

As long as your O2 Micro is the one with the little antenna on it and it's recognized by windows, then you shouldn't need the USB adapter.

To answer to your 1st question, you can connect your laptop to the wireless router only if you have the LAN ports in the wireless router. You need to connect the laptop and the router using the LAN cable and not wirelessly as your laptops does not have a Wifi card.\

Regarding the 2nd question, look for a router which has wired LAN ports too (at least 4) so that you have alternate ways of configuring and connecting to the router. (Linksys, Netgear and D-Link are most popular these days) You may also check other features of the router such as LAN connectivity speed (100 or 1000 MBPS) and for wireless feature check for the protocols that it is compatible with (A and B are outdated, G is most common these days and N is the latest one)

O2 Micro O026912 Cardbus Controller is the PCI controller. Nothing to do with wireless network.
dp83815/816 10/100 MacPhyte PCI Adapter is a PCI Ethernet adapter that can be used on wired networks.
If you want to connect to the router wireless you need to purchase a Wireless Ethernet Adapter, either USB or PCMCIA.

How to enable wireless networks on hp pavilion a6330f or does it need a wireless card and which and what type of card or PCI or USB? What is a PCI? How to install a wireless card?

See the link below for product specifications. The simple way to go is an external usb adapter for wireless, since your motherboard only has one PCI slot and it likely has a 56K modem installed in it. Remember to put the driver disk which comes with your adapter in the CDROM/DVD drive BEFORE you plug in the usb adapter , and follow the installation directions carefully - unrecognized usb devices can be difficult to remove...

Can the HP Pavilion 763n PC Desktop use a wireless router?

Your computer has a "built-in" 10/100BT network connection integrated on the motherboard but to go wireless you'll have to add either a PCI (internal) or USB (external) wireless network adapter to transmit/receive the signal from your wireless router. Think "walkie-talkie" here with the wireless router installed AFTER the modem (phone line outlet needed) located in a central area of your home and transmitting/receiving to the individual wireless network adapters that must be separately installed in each computer.

How can i get wireless internet connection, with hp pavilion ze4400 notebook?

You can either get an expansion card for the PMCIA card slot for your wireless or a wireless USB adapter. Make sure the adapter you get is compatible with the wireless band your wireless access point is using (b/g/n).

How do i set up wireless internet on my hp pavillion a330n desktop? Do i need a wireless card or is it built in? and where do i put the wireless card if i need one?

Hello,

Yes you need a wireless adapter.

Solution one : Get PCI wireless adapter which you will insert in an empty PCI slot inside your computer.

Solution 2. Buy a USB wireless adapter, which you plug in a USB port.
However, if my memory serves me right, that particular HP pavillion is 5 or 6 years old, and it does support USB 2.0, just USB 1.1

My advice to you is to buy a USB 2.0 PCI card to be installed in an empty PCI slot )or in the one occupied by the firewire )if not needed). This card will provide 4 or 5 USB 2.0 adapters. Then buy a USB wireless adapter, which you will be able to use with other computers.

Hope It helps.

HP Pavilion DV1000 drivers...

I found the problem to be a rather simple but frustrating one....when is an HP dv1000 not a dv1000....almost always!! You cannot get the correct downloads based on the model number on the tag. You must specify the PRODUCT NUMBER on the HP download site from the tag, not model. You can enter the general DV1000 and get to the download page and look for the entry "Not your Product?!" Follow that link and enter the PN from the tag....download those and you will get drivers that work with your unit. My "DV1000" was actually a DV1660!!!!

Failed to install

Belkin drivers are a bit of a pain, uninstall the drivers again and remove the usb adapter, and follow exactly as per instructions, normally driver first, but ignore the pop up about the driver not being a signed windows if it does, just click install anyway. toward the end of the installation you should be prompted to connect the usb adapter, the hardware should be found and then the installation should complete. If driver installed ok but the adapter cant find the the driver plug it into a different usb port and again the found hardware should pop up then install driver popup should show and you should select install automatically.
