Question about Dell A960 All-In-One InkJet Printer

A960 not compatible with Vista Home Premium

I spent the better part of 3 hours with a Dell Technician and at the end of a gruelling exercise all they could tell me was that my A960 does not appear to be compatible with Vista. They then recommended that I run XP and Vista at the same time so that I could use my printer - crazy!! Has anybody ran up against this issue and have a resolution? Please....

I have the exact same issue. I have my A960 hardwired to my Dell XP Desktop. I can print just fine from the XP Desktop.

When I try to print from my Vista notebook over my wireless network, I can see the shared printer just fine but I cannot print to it. I receive a 0x000003e3 error. I've tried the other blog tricks of turning off bidirectional port support but nothing is working. My gutt tells me there is a fundamental issue with the A960 Vista driver than Dell needs to fix.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I posted using the wrong area. :-(

I have the exact same problem as crc3. I can't tell by reading the info
on the Dell website that map9966 posted whether or not installing the
4/5 and 9/10 files will destroy my ability to still print from my XP
desktop. I tried downloading both. Now, sometimes I can print from my
XP, sometimes I can't. My Vista XP appears to have installed the
printer, but every time I try to print, my XP completely locks up and
nothing prints. It looks like I'm completely hosed now. How do I back
out and start all over again?

Has there been a fix for this problem from Dell? I can't print, and now I can't scan. I spent nearly $300 for an all-in-one that really doesn't do anything a little more than a year after I bought it (when I got a Vista-based Dell).

  • Anonymous Dec 06, 2008

Their Vista driver doesn't solve the problem for me and didn't include the "All In One Center", which was the only way to get the scanner to work in XP

It's a good thing there's an XP machine around, with Vista it's a hunk of junk.

When I initially downloaded the "vista" compatible drivers for my dell A960, it worked....more or less. As time has gone on, things started being more of a problem. I had to use a different USB port each time I hooked up my laptop ( it was random and I just had to try until it comunicated). Now my laptop won't communicate with my A960. I have an Epson that works fine!!!!

Any solution yet? I have a printer that is sitting idle. Anyone want to buy it?

  • ngd1224 Mar 18, 2009

The printer indicates it is scanning but it does nothing.

Never install a new operating system for at least 18 months. 55% of people that use Vista are having problems. There is a patch/upgrade for Vista at Dell dated 9/10/2007 There is also a newer driver for Vista dated 4/5/2007.
Here is the link for both: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WLH&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PRN_ALL_A960&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en

    hooboy,

From within XP do a system restore. My responce above was for Vista & not XP.

For XP users go to here:

All of you have the correct site's. If a system restore run from within XP fails than un install the A960 software through control panel Add/Remove Programs. The needed site for re-install is above. XP users use's XP software. Vista user's use Vista.

As a vet can I shoot myself? Maybe later....

Did anyone find a way to get a A960 printer to work on Vista 64

The 55% of the people having Vista problems are using obsolete hardware or have no idea what they are doing. you need to start blaming the hardware manufacturers for not creating drivers for windows vista. they're simply slowing down the evolutionary progression of software. in addition, the Dell A960 is based off a horrible Lexmark printer. So it's not even Dell or Microsoft's fault. Blame Lexmark!

I have Microsoft Picture It 7.0, Is this software compatable with Windows Vista. Installed it but can't get it to work. Thanks

No, this software is not compatible with Windows Vista and will never work correctly. Microsoft will never release an updated driver to make it compatible. I went through this very thing myself when I bought Windows Vista 3 years ago. I spent many hours trying to make it work and even contacted Microsoft on this issue. I finally gave up and purchased Microsoft Digital Image Suite Anniversary Edition which works perfectly. I suggest you do the same as you are fighting a loosing battle.

I need to know how to make my A960 All-In-One compatible with Windows 7

1. If you plugged in your A960 in the USB slot hoping windows 7 would provide the right driver via windows update: Just remove the printer in control panel > printer > rightclick the printer > remove device.

2. No need to use the dell cleanup utility. No need to uninstall under "uninstall software" since it wouldn't show there if the wrong driver was installed by windows automatically (but if you installed a wrong driver manually you may have to).

3. Download the Vista 64-bit Driver R153052.exe (or 32 bit if applicable), links see PudgyOne's post 28 Nov 2009 10:32PM.

4. Install the driver: clicking the R153052.exe first extracts the files to e. g. C:\dell\drivers\R153052. Then rightclick the setup.exe in that folder and change compatibility to Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
