My Toshiba SD-V392 DVD/VCR player will not turn on either by remote or with the button on the unit.It has power as the display shows lit up dots when plugged in. Also, how do I remove the DVD that is in the unit as the open/close button does not work. I will replace this unit with a Toshiba SD- 3950 SU DVD player which I have but cannot find the owners manual to assure I properly hook it up. Any help with this would be appreciated. The set up is with a cable box and a Toshiba 27AF44 TV. Thanks, Bob Neumaier

- All of these suggestions have been checked. They are basically in the manual in trouble shooting. Apparently it is a problem inside the unit?

- There is no small hole on the DVD tray to insert a paper clip. The only thing I know for sure is that the unit has 110 volts going into the machine. From you note, it could be an internal transformer problem? which suggests I scrap the unit?

- What is involved with replacing the SMPS if this is the problem?
On the the DVD tray there should be a tiny hole through which an ordinary paper clip, after straightening, can be inserted. Use a straightened paper clip and when it touches a small lever which when pushed unlocks the tray amd one can pull the tray out & remove the DVD. This can be done later after removing the DVD for replacing it with a new one. The power issue is a bit more complex because different voltages are required like the DVD player needs + & - 5V, 12V for the motor which spins the disc. The optical laser head's voltage is in the range of +/-3.3 V. The amplifier section could be powered with 12 to 24 Volts. Thus this power supply should be checked first and is the 1st Priority. If the fault is in this power supply(called SMPS, i.e. switching-mode power supply) where some voltages are not being generated from the transformer itself where different voltages are being tapped from it. If the power supply is the problem, you might not have to change the DVD player at all, only the SMPS...............................sodeep

- OK the hole is actually present in all dvd -r/rw in Desktop PC's. The display light is actually appearing on switching the power only, after which the display is no lighting up after the power button is activated. Next the manual for 3950 SU DVD player can be downloaded fro this site: http://safemanuals.com/zearchres_697.php
Since the problem begins at the power supply which is built inside the player. Now that you are intending to replace it with the model which you have mentioned and the manual is as said earlier, when you have disconnected the existing DVD player only option to remove the DVD stuck inside there should be no problem in opening up the metal housing and remove the DVD from inside it.....sodeep

- Only thing I wanted to add is that replacing the DVD player will be more cost-effective and he users manual can be downloaded for free............................sodeep Forget about smps, its best to junk it!
