When I turn the power on it starts up, then fan slows down till it shuts off by itself. Is this a power pack supply problem?

It doe's it fast, It powers up and the fan over the processor starts to spin and picks up speed. The computer starts to boot up, and it say's it didn't shut down correctly and start in safe mode than the xp screen starts up, at this point the fan is hardly running and the whole computer shuts down completely. thanks for your response.

Does this happened suddenly or does it take awhile. Does it work after cooling for a few minutes? The usual problem is that the fan is bad on the power supply and it heats up until it the power supply goes into thermal shut down.

I that the caps are bad on the motherboard. They are probably puffy and not flat like they should be.

Shuts down 2 seconds after powering on.

Don't know this exact server. But my guess it is either a heat issue or a power supply issue. Turn it on with the cover off. Check the CPU fan(s). If your CPU is getting too hot the system might be shutting down power to save it. If everything seems cool it might be the power supply I have seen it when the power supply fan goes out on the power supply and the caps inside start to sizzle. Voltage ramps up and fail.
Hope this helps.
Also, Something that has tripped me in the past. Make sure the power button is not stuck. I had a server that the power button stuck down and it would turn itself off. Took me 2 CPU fans and a power supply to figure that out. LOL

Shut down dell dimesion 4600 because it was running slow and it wouldn't boot up again

If it was running slow and now nothing at all happens when you press the power button, your power supply has probably died. Be careful replacing a power supply, if you accidentally get into the power supply itself, even with it unplugged it could kill you. DO NOT TRY TO REPAIR POWER SUPPLIES EVER! They are cheap and easy to replace, however dell has proprietary power supplies so you can't just go pick up a new one at the store. You must contact dell and order a new one. Once you have the part spend the few dollars to have it installed by a professional. If you are getting some action when starting (sounds, lights, ect.) it could be any number of things, but judging by the slow down I would say overheating. Again spend a few dollars to have a professional look for signs of heat damage and replace and bad components (hopefully not your system board) and install a new fan or additional cooling methods to prevent in the future.

Computer just turnoff suddenly

Could be one of two most common problems?
#1
Have you ever replaced the CPU Cooler (Heatsink/fan)?
CPU Cooler fan may be working, Heatsink dirty.
CPU is over-heating = mainboard turns off
Replace CPU Cooler
#2
Power Supply fan not working causing partial failure on 5volt or 12volt side.
Replace Power Supply

There are more causes but these are most common for short-time boot problems.
Another could be hard-drive, but that wouldn't shut system down like first two would.

A/C starts up/Cools/Fan Slows, Unit Shuts down in 4 minutes

Ensure proper voltage to the unit. Check for overheated/damaged wires and/or connections in the control panel as well as at the fan motor and compressor.

Initially, my fan would run fast and then slow. Then, it began to shut off frequently by itself; the monitor would state "monitor sleeping." Now, the CPU will not power on at all. Even after having a...

Fixing the problem would have been to change the fan when it started to fail. The bearings were probably going out and causing it to labor and slow down. When the fan quit altogether that was the big flashing warning sign "Do not run till you fix me" type of warning. CPU's develope tremendous amounts of heat. Without a fan there to cool it, it could have damaged something.

1. Get a new fan
2. Unplug all add on cards
3. Unplug hard drives, floppys and cdrom
The only thing that should be plugged into motherboard is the video and ram and keyboard. Unplug power supply for 1 minute. Make sure the power supply master switch on the back is on. Try to start the computer. If it starts then start connecting your drives back one at a time and any addon cards. If it doesn't start you may be looking at replacing motherboard or CPU. I've never seen an Intel CPU fail even from heat but there is a first for everything.

Infocus in26 fan runs continually

Hello,
The fan does run continuously on this projector however it should be running very very slow when the projector has completed it's lamp cool down routine.
The reason for this is that a portion of the switching power supply remains energized (running) when the projector is at rest. But as I mentioned it should run very slow in this state. If it remains running full blast then most likely the fan speed control chip is shorted which can cause fail 2 ways, either the fan 1. runs full
speed or 2. remains stalled (then the projector will go over-temp and shut itself down) I hope this answers you question.

Cheers

Fails to start

the problem is your fan may not have got proper power supply....the wire connecting the fan and power chord should be perfect....if there is a loose connection your fan may not get proper power supply and then it will not run.....this is the main probem.....just check the wire connection between the fan and power chord has been properly connected and there are no loose connections....i am a software engineer....and have experience in it....try this ...it will 100% solve your problem.......
