Check the MTU on your netgear and what the setting is on your 2wire gateway

default on netgear is 1500 (on netgear - advanced - wan setup)

if you are using PPPoE it probably needs to be 1492 (on 2wire gateway - broadband link - details )

Make sure the MTU is set the same on your router (netgear) as on your 2wire. default on netgear is 1500 if your dsl uses PPoE it probably needs to be 1492

I need the security key to my existing wireless netgear router.

The Security Key is normally used for Wireless routers to protect your connection from any unauthorized use. As you have said that you do not have the Security key for your router with you, the best way to connect your ACER laptop to the Netgear router is by asking your Wireless service provider to reset the security key & freshly reentering the same on both of your HP & ACER laptops.

I have Time Warner Cable for internet and Vontage cable for my phone thru my internet. I'm trying to connect a Linksys router for my wireless laptop. I also have a Netgear switch connected to Time Warner...

If you purchased a Linksys wireless roter then you shoul not need the switch anymore-
Try going directly from your time warner modem into the Interner/WAN port on the router and then plug your desktop computer and the vontage phone system into 2 of the ports on the router. After everything is hooked up you will probably need to power cycle for it all to work correctly.
Please power cycle in this order:

Reboot modem - then Router- then Vontage phone system.

Hope this helps

Netgear Wireless Router Problems

Use the process of elmination, disconnect Vontage, does the problem go away? If no then look at the modem (cable or dsl).
Hint! If you have a cable modem, make sure all cable connections are tight from the outside of the house, to every TV, and from the wall to the cable modem. Use plyers to tighten all of them.
