Question about Sony KP-43T70 43" Rear Projection Television
My problem is exactly what you explained as a "convergence chip failure" BUT trying to adjust the convergence I could not figure out. On my original remote there is no "tv settings" button, there is a menu button BUT there isnothing about "convergence settings" The TV is from 1999 and has gotten good use, it is our Back-up tv and it isn't fuctionable enough to watch, although I haven't tried it with 3-D glasses yet!! :) IF you could help me find the convergence section I would appreciate it so that I know if we need to replace the chips or not! Thanks in advance!! *(Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.
These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.
