SOURCE: D50 won't take a picture!
I was having the same problem.. And since I could not afford to take it to the shop, I tried everything I could think of...
Then I fixed it!!
It seems that the slide door behind the shutter was stuck for some reason... If you remove the lens.. (make sure the camera is in manual mode)... snap a shot so the shutter is up.. then gently slide the panel in the back down....
Once I did that.. the camera was working again.... Hope this easy solution works for you guys....

SOURCE: Nikon D70 Err
The "ERR" code usually refers to an aperture problem. For example, if a lens with an aperture ring (Sigma is a favourite) used for earlier cameras is used, the aperture has to be set to its smallest (usually f/22 or "A" for automatic).
As you are using an 18-200, I assume it's the Nikkor VR. Callinto a camera store and ask them to check with a different lens. It may be the VR lens is faulty.

I had exactly the same problem, i tried everything, battery out, sd card out , lens off etc...nothing worked.Completely by chance and irritation i repeatedly pressed the shutter butten over and over
( without the lens attached ) till it didn't react at all.On my LCD i got a normal menu so i put the lens on and bingo it was fixed, still works fine.I think maybe the shutter was out of alignment.
Hope this works for you.

I belive this isn't a fault but more to do with how you are using the camera. The r09 message is to do with the camera buffer and how many more pictures it can hold. You do have a memory card installed, right? The r09 is normally not an error, but simply an indicator of how many more pictures you can take in the current burst before the buffer fills. The number will vary according to the image quality and size settings.
