Re: Installing wireless modem

To download the most appropriate modem driver for your Windows XP computer, a few steps is indispensible to finish the whole process.

Step 1
Look at the modem. Write down the make and model. If you have a dial-up modem in your computer, take the panel on the tower off. Shine the flashlight on the device. On the circuit board, the manufacturer and/or model number is present.

Step 2
Locate an Internet connection. To download Windows XP modem drivers, go to the library or someone's home where the Internet is able to connect. If you have another working modem in your house, you can download them directly to your computer.

Step 3
Go to the manufacturer's official website or a Windows XP modem driver's web page. Windows XP Drivers, Drivers Kit and Driver Support Registry have modem drivers for the Windows XP operating system.

Step 4
Click on the modem device. Select the manufacturer of the modem. Some of the driver sites are XP only, while others are all drivers. You will have the chance to choose your operating system before downloading. Click on the "Download" tab. Wait approximately 10 minutes, depending on the speed of the PC and Internet connection.

Step 5
Burn it to a disk. If you are at another location, you need to burn to CD/DVD for transportation.

Use a 2-wire or 4-wire cable to connect from the telephone-jack to the telephone-port on your DSL modem/router combination device.

Use an 8-wire Ethernet cable to connect from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your laptop.

Then, you will have Internet access, and, if this router also has a "wireless" capability, you can configure it to provide wireless access to your computer(s).

I want internet on the other side of house

In order for you to accomplish that goal what you need to buy is a wireless router that can be located on the other side of your house so computers there can have internet access wired or wirelessly connected to the router. You can get a wireless router from Linksys, Netgear , Dlink or Belkin.

I want to encrypt my belkin modem with wireless G Router

Belkin, IP is to access router firmware page

Enter the default or your unique username and password.
Then, look for the security settings for your wireless connection and set it to “WPA” or “WPA-PSK, TKIP” and make your own passphrase. Then, double click on your laptop's wireless connection's icon in the system tray and connect manually to the now "secure wireless network" entering the passphrase that you set up in the router.

TIP: WEP isn't secure, but it is better than nothing.

Still stuck? Look in the wireless router's manual to learn how to secure your connection, and only then, call the router manufacturer.

Problems setting up Belkin wireless G+ mimo modem router/usb network adapter

It sounds like the router address is wrong or you are not connected to the network.. Guessing you are using Windows XP or Vista. Go to the DOS prompt ( then type ipconfig. This will bring up details on your network (see example below).

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

You should see default gateway address which is the address of your router ie in your example. If this is not shown you have not connected to your router properly. If it shows a different address use the address shown to try and access your router. HTH

Connecting one network to another?

This is what I would do I would connect the wireless to the internet direct and allow all PC with wireless capabilities to access the net through that wireless irrespective to where I place the wireless router.  Alternative I would link the cable on on the second floor the one you use for the PC to access the net to access the the wireless it should automatic allocate IP addresses as each machine accesses the network.  The speed of that wirless is decreased as each wireless PC comes on line.

Wireless configuration

What you will need: Wireless router and a wireless adapter connected to your PC. This is assuming you have a broadband internet connection. Install the wireless router by taking the ethernet cable out of the back of your computer and placing it in the WAN or internet port in the back of your router. Install the wireless adapter inside your PC. Unplug your modem for a minute or so. Then plug in your modem and your router, then turn on your PC. If you are running XP, it should see a list of wireless access points you can access. Select the one for your router (should be the strongest) and hit connect. This will connect you to the wireless router and the internet. Note this solution assumes the following: You have a high speed internet connection, your ISP's modem is connected to your computer via an ethernet cable, and you are running windows XP.
