I have the same problem. It was working fine about two months ago. We went to use it Christmas morning and the screen was black when we tried recording.

same problem , just went to use it and black screen , you can watch the video with a perfect picture but you try to record and it is black help

Yes I am having the exact same problem with my ZR60. Whenever I go into camera mode, the screen only shows black. Tried to fix the problem but no luck.

Will Canon really replace my camera?

I'm kinda doubting it since this camera is a few years old and definitely not still under warranty. But if this is the case could someone let me know

    thank you

black blank screen all the time

  • jlarner Jun 15, 2008

I used my camera maybe 30 times and have horizontal pixel lines across screen and then no picture like the shutter is not making good contact, now I just get a blank screen shutter not engaged. Unit still plays back tapes ok but useless for recording video very disappointed no help from camera shops they say buy a new camera.

Screen stays black when turned on in take picture/video mode

There is something wrong with the lens. Perhaps its obstructed by something or the lens doesn't really open @ all. Try cleaning the lens with lint free cloth if not. Follow the in-warranty repair process @ www.kodak.com/go/stepbystep the website will ask you to troubleshoot first. Just keep following the website in the end if issue persist it will give you the page that you need to fill up so that you can send your camera and repair.
Note: After filling-up the information on the page and completing it wait for an e-mail from Kodak it will give you details how to send your camera for repair. It will also contain the address and phone number of the repair centre.

First a black screen, then a lens error

For the lens error:

For the black pictures (after you've corrected the lens error):

Note, if you're going to try fix 5a on the above blog page, do it with the camera turned off to lessen the chance of damaging the lens.

Screen is black for photo taking

Not really a solution, but I think you have the same problem I do. I believe that the shutter is sticking. Mine will work for one shot every 3 or 5 power cycles (turn it off and on again)

No images on LCD when trying to record

I have the same problem I did not open the camera yet to fix the issue but after gently hitting the camera lens i came to this resolution
Go head and turn on the camera in the recording mode. With 2 fingers squeeze of the camera where the lens sticks out. Right by the switch between close shooting and far shooting. Now squeeze the lens really tight, try it in that same area and the lens should make the connection to the LCD screen. I had this problem after 1st month of my purchase, if you can give back the camera and get a new one or another brand. If not these instructions do work for me so I hope it works for you

BLACK Lines and having to reset.

i assume that the 'black lines' are 5 bars of dark video spaced equally across the screen. this is a symptom of dirty heads. use a mini DV cleaning tape, and the problem should go away.

Black particles on focusingscreen

If the specks are just on your viewfinder focussing screen, they won't be on your pics. If they're on both your pics and focussing screen, you need to find someone else to clean your camera. Cleaning either your CCD sensor or your screen yourself can leave scratches. Changing lenses often can suck dust into the inside if the body is dusty. Try another repair shop for thorough cleaning - it shouldn't cost more than $50.
