How do you take out T42 IBM broken power jack in order to put in a new one

you need to remove the keyboard then the upper casing... if you have a modem, remove it to get more work room. you should be able to unplug the power connector off the mainboard (the wire between the power jack and the mainboard) and snap the old jack out of place. be careful not to break the board or anything while doing so, though it should not be hard to remove the jack since it is not soldered. best of luck

I have a ibm 10/100 etherjet cardbus adapter and am trying to get it up and working on my laptop that is running windows 7. Previously when i was running windows xp it work perfect but since i installed...

Unfortunately, this adapter is 10 years old and Microsoft and IBM have decided that you've used this network adapter for quite long enough and you need to buy a new one.
Microsoft and IBM have not and probably won't provide drivers for Windows 7 for this adapter. I looked at the Lenovo/IBM web site, and the last version of Windows that was supported by IBM was Windows XP. There are no drivers listed for Vista, so I'm very certain that there will be no drivers for Windows 7.
This is what is known as "planned obsolescence"

My pc with Vista does'nt recognize IBM 33L4889 I

Sometimes it is better to cut your losses and replace the old device instead of trying to find a non-existent driver or fall prey to sites which claim to provide "drivers for everything - just scan your computer" and then they infest you with malware, adware or spyware, charge a fee and you get nothing except headaches for your trouble.

Especially with 64-bit Vista, older camera drivers just do not exist and it is less costly to replace the camera than to search in frustration.

Most of the problems with Internet Explorer are probably because it uses very VERY old security technology, and most sites won't talk to it. It's probably worth downloading firefox rather than messing around with versions of Internet Explorer; Microsoft are trying to push version 7.0 of IE which really requires Vista but will reluctantly work on XP so they aren't going to be interested in providing earlier OS's with browsers.

Once you get that running, try checking out the crucial memory checker which will identify what memory is running and attempt to find a match. Even if crucial don't have a match, it will be able to print out the details of what you need so that you can look elsewhere.

As for the keyboard, a retailer may be able to clean it, but that's not something I'd recommend doing yourself since it's fiddly bits of very thin plastic, and if you snap one you'll ruin the keyboard altogether. Another solution if you have an external keyboard port or USB port might be a roll up keyboard that can be kept in the laptop bag without taking up much space.

Good hunting :)

CANT INSTALL DRIVER

since you have not given any model no for your ibm web cam, Its very difficult for anyone to tell which drivers to download

visit this link to scan for your web cam drivers:

http://www.softwaredriverdownload.com/ibm_33l4889_pc_camera_windows_2000xp_driver.html

installation:
  • Make sure the IBM PC/Net Camera is unplugged from the computer before installing this software.
  • Click [YES] to continue, the exe will then extract setup files to c:\\setup folder.
  • Go to C:\\setup folder, you will find Setup.exe there, double-click to run it.

DC Power jack broken

Looks like you're right, I did not see any Lenovo replacement jacks either. You might try looking at the IBM Thinkpad jacks for various models to see if you can find the same jack.

I've repaired 3 laptops with this problem. Rather than replacing the jack on the mainboard I wired a "pigtail" to the mainboard and then zip tied a female connector to the back of the laptop itself. I did this because the mainboards were pretty beat up from the heat the original jack produced as it began to loosen. The end result is not as pretty as the original jack, but it absolutely takes all the stress off the mainboard. Those computers will never have this problem again.

Good luck.
