dimage a1 viewer is fine, picture is gray w/white noise. shows that way on computer pic too. Movie player is normal, good picture. Only digital photo pics are distorted. this just started after shooting a small movie pic a few days ago but can't figure out why the digital pictures distorted..checked all settings and reset to defaults. still no good.

camera turns on without a problem menu screen works no problem but both viewing screens are grey out and flicker but you can't see any image at all, I have seen other people with same problem and read about the repair but can't seem to get any information on were to find the CCD to fix this problem.

I contacted customer support - free repair program ended July 17, 2008. They will fix my camera CCD problem for $211 in 7-10 days. Is it worth it? I paid $1600 in 2004 for multiple lenses and accessories. Hmmm...The repair comes with 6 mo warranty. Facility is in Conneticut. Can you fix this yourself? I haven't found anyone who has.

If this also shows up on the pictures it could be a defective Sony CCD issue. If so, Sony will fix your Minolta camera for free (with free shipping) regardless of warranty. You need to do this before March 31, 2008 so get going! See this link:

The Dimage models that Sony is accepting for the recall repair are:
Dimage 7HI, 7I, A1, Xi, F300, XT, X20, S414.

If the CCD has been ruled out as the cause by Sony, another possible cause is a poor connection of the LCD ribbon cable. This would require opening the camera and reseating the ribbon cable to its connector to correct.

Try charging it for an hour even if it is indicating that it is already full in 10 minutes. If the battery still gets drained after a few shots, then you should change your charger.

Touchscreen stopped working

I'm afraid that problem is a common one with touch screen cameras.
I recommend trying:

1.) Ensuring the battery is fully charged
2.) If battery is fully charged and it still isn't working, remove the battery from the camera for at least 24 hours. This ensures that all electricity has drained from all the circuits and allows it to fully reset.

If neither of those work, unfortunately it most likely needs to be repaired. If you don't have warranty on the camera, repairs can be costly and not a economically sensible option.

My camera will not turn on, it is fully charged. When I turn it on it goes to the main Kodak screen and then just shuts off. I have tried cleaning the battery, but nothing has worked.

There is a systems control board failure or the systems control has detected a problem in the camera. I know you have fully charged your batteries, but try regular batteries just to be sure, because as the rechargeable batteries degrade the systems controller will shut the camera down.

When I push the power button, the lens cap comes out and on the screen is a very brief shot of what the camera is aimed at. The camera stays engaged for one second and the lens cap goes retreats back into...

Try to remove the rechargeable battery and use a battery of the same type but an alkaline like the energizer. Sometime rechargeable battery malfunctions that it seems fully charged but actually is not. If the camera continue to power on when you replace the battery it simply means that your problem is in the battery.

Camera won't turn on to take pictures~

This is a common problem related to batteries. Use 2100mA or higer batteries fully charge batteries. This problem occurs when you use alkaline batteries or faulty NiMH batteries. To solve the problem try with new fully charged NiMH batteries.

Camera still takes pictures but LCD screen remain black(lit, differnet from when screen is off) at all times. Batteries are fully charged.

Please make sure to check if the battery is fully charged. Second, check the menu option for battery saving mode and turn it off. If the battery is getting old and not charging fully anymore the priority of the camera is the shooting mode.

Camer keeps shutting's burry and powers

Digital cameras require lots of power. Bad electrical contacts can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD screen is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. Bad contacts make cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.
Do not overcharge.
Reset by removing power up to one month is the ultimate non-physical repair for DVD recorders and other software using digital devices. Digital cameras reset to original settings if batteries are removed. Time required varies with function and camera, but try one minute. Check display and setup menu for non-auto functions and date/time. Remove extra memory to eliminate this as a possible problem. Insert fully charged batteries and restart the camera.

Your battery will no longer take a charge. Replace the battery with a new one. Your computer probably does not supply the power to the camera. You need a fully charged battery in the camera to view or transfer photos onto your computer.
