SOURCE: Error message

This is pretty common with the 300D.  There is a pin on which the secondary (AF) mirror pivots.  It looks like Canon didn't used the right, or enough glue to hold the pin to the mirror box assembly.  There are a couple of sites that show sort of how to repair it.  I'm working on fixing mine right now, but have some other issues.  To do this properly yourself, you will need jewlers screwdrivers, a good soldering iron, tweezers, and some glue (I used super glue).

I chose to do the repair because I've got a degree in electrical engineering, experience with micro-electronics, and have more time than money.  I did manage to break the flex circuit that goes to the flash board, which is the source of my woes now.

SOURCE: error 99 appears when I use the canon EOS 350D

I think I answered this earlier did you ask this question more tan once?

well here you are a simple fix from experience.

The guy at Canon tech support listened to my woes and then told me that the lens contacts were dirty and to get a pencil with an eraser on the end, just a regular old pencil with a red rubber eraser. Detach the lens from the camera, hold it so that the lens’ gold contacts are pointing down and lightly erase their exposed surface, cleaning them of any hand oil that might have gotten on them. Do the same thing with the gold contacts inside the camera body. This is a bit harder but it’s doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.
I did this to each of my three lenses just to be sure. Lo and behold, it worked (so far anyway). I’ve shot numerous pictures with each lens and have not gotten a single error 99 message.

SOURCE: File Error shows up when I try to view photos taken

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=C387963&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KNOWLEDGEARTICLES_1_1&dialogID=144190705&stateId=1 0 144204387

The above link describes the following:

The LCD screen may display a FILE ERROR message when trying to view a still image on the camera if the image was rotated, modified and overwritten using editing software on a computer. To play images you have taken on the camera, it is recommended that you do not make any changes to the original image files.
---

Another problem may be that the Memory Stick Pro/Duo or Memory Stick Pro used in the camera has dirty contacts, causing this error.

Or, the memory stick pro/duo is damaged somehow.

Remove and blow out the memory chamber with compressed air, and remove from any adapters and clean with compressed air and then reinsert fully into the chamber for the Memory Stick on the camera.

Using a RESET button

  1. Locate the RESET button on the camera.
  2. Use a pointed object (like a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the RESET button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. After 2-3 seconds has elapsed, release the RESET button.
Performing a manual power reset
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove the battery pack.
  3. Remove the button-sized lithium battery.
  4. Allow the camera to remain without power for 30 seconds.
  5. Reinsert the button-sized lithium battery.
  6. Reinsert the battery pack.
  7. Turn on the camera.
If your camera is experiencing an issue and the issue is not resolved by performing the appropriate reset procedure above, then service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

You have to know the MODE your camera is in. If you have it in the wrong mode you may not be able to take a photo in some conditions. You typically cannot take a photo of the moon on any auto setting the moon will be a white blob. The moon almost has to be taken manually.

Error 99 appears, unit is draning battery and cds have jammed up. where can i get another unit from apart from genuine as they are too expensive due to the climate control!

Hi.

If this is a Kenwood, then Error 99 means the following:

• E-99: Changer malfunction, disc may be caught in machine or changer requires service.

Before replacing the unit try disconnecting battery for two minutes (ensure you have car anti theft code). If that does not work, then the unit must be taken apart, there is a disk stuck or a mechanical problem.

Regarding replacement, to find one you need to post details on make and model. Ebay is a good source for second hand factory replacemnts. Here a generic list.

The date created is wrong on my photos

The file properties will always show the date downloaded, since that's the date the file was created on your hard drive. The date (and time) the photo was taken is stored in the file itself, in what's known as the EXIF data.

I don't know what operating system you're using, so I can't give you specific instructions on how to get the date the photo was taken. On Windows Vista, for example, if you click (not double-click) on a file in Explorer, the date taken will appear in the status area at the bottom of the window. Other programs will have different ways of displaying the EXIF data.

Canon Rebel Xt EOS Err 99

Error 99 is a "catch all" error that has several causes. It could be that your battery is not fully charged, especially if it is a generic, non-Canon battery. Charge for at least over night even if the charger says it's full. If that's not the cause, switches inside the camera will have to be cleaned by a repair shop.

Error 99

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.
If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.

My camera is making me sad :-(

This was taken from another site:
My camera displays “bC” or “Err 99” when I try to take a picture. What does this mean?
BC is an error condition in EOS film cameras, and means one of two things. It either means “battery check,” so try putting in a fresh battery, or it’s a general error condition of some type. If the battery is fine, have a look at the previous section for things to check, especially dirty lens contacts or lens compatibility problems with Sigma lenses. Error 99 is essentially the same error condition as BC, only on EOS digital cameras. The EOS D30 also had error codes 09 and 10, which are similar.

I hope that info helps.
Good Luck!
