On my Samsung, the message that a firmware update appears on screen, then you click Apply, it asks if you are sure?, you click Yes, and then a message says Don't use or switch off the television until the update is applied. A progress bar appears on screen, and then at the end, you get a message to switch off and back on again.
Does BIOS messages appear, or is the screen absolutely black? If you see BIOS messages and then black screen, you should go to BIOS and choose your boot devices correctly. If there is no screen do the following tip: 1) Turn off the laptop. 2) remove the battery. 3) click and hold power button for about 30 seconds to discharge the circuit from motherboard. 4) then install the battery again 5) and click power button.
See what happens. In many cases it helps. If there is still black screen, you should check your laptops RAM. In many cases removing and then installing back the RAM helps.
I believe there is an option to stop that. It's just finding out on what menu it is on. Some Panasonic machines have it on the FUNCTION MENU then press SETUP then press DIGITAL TV TUNING. It's often listed as NEW CHANNEL MESSAGE.
Selecting that will switch it off or at least the options for it.
It's probably caused by weak stations that get detected then drop out again.
