Question about Microtek SCANMAKER I900 Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Scanner Malfunctioning Have had the Microtek i900 scanner since March 2007. We have scanned approx. 1200+ slides, and a few hundred of photos. Recently the scanner is malfunctioning and seems to get lost during a scan and ends up "churning" or locks up the software program completely. Also have noticed some lines running through the scans intermittently. We have emailed tech support at Microtek a few days ago...no reponse yet from them. We are still under our 12 month warranty but have no idea if we will be able to repair it through them based on the horrible review of their customer support we've read online. And no repair facility in the US? We are wondering why we bought this in the first place now.

We have had the ScanMaker since 2005, during some scans  there is a terrible noise and scanned image on screen is warbled and not legible.  I have had some success turning off scanner and ScanWizard SW and restarting.  I can usually get about 30 scans completed and then run into the same problem.  The scanner seems to need to rest for 10 minutes to hours.  Currently, I can't get a clean scan and the problem is no longer resolving with a simple power down and restart.

Lines in the ourput could be because of dust on the glass, clean the glass. Dont use any solvent. Try and reinstall the software driver after removing the existing. Run Scandisk on the computer. Soem scanners cannot work continuously for long hours.

Green line on i900 microtek scanner too

Try checking the ribbon cable going to the scanner head, it may have a bad connection causing an error as it flexes at a certain spot.

Microtek Scanmaker i900 made a few clunking sounds while scanning. Then once the scanning mechanism got to the back of the scanner it seemed to have gotten stuck and could not reverse. It bumps a few...

Is your lock/unlock mechinism underneath in the unlock position?
I have a scanmaker 4800 and am assuming ours have basic similarities.
Mine has 2 round magnets that are visible when the glass is removed.
Once they fell out of place when I took it apart and I had to reglue them in. Is anything in the pathway of your carriage rail?(I don't know what else to call it) but a little wheel on the right side slides up and down this rail and maybe one of those little round magnets fell out and is blocking it.

When we scan a photo with the scanner it appears black on computer screen

Check your software settings. Is your black & white scanning okay? If this is fine, then it must be your settings.

Need operating instructions

This link should have user manual etc. http://www.microtekusa.com/ but unfortunately the site is down at the moment - try again later. on the singapore (east asia) site http://www.microtek.com.sg/Product.php?Product=Detail&P_Id=117&Kword=scanmaker%20i900&Select=All&FirstData=0#F-B nothing obvious based on your problem, but at least it means they still acknowledge the product and that they have to support it. maybe you can spot something yourself as well. If no luck with the US website then go to microtek.com and complain to any of the other sites. Their customer service should help. If no joy from this please post again, someone might know the software. Hope this helps :)

Where do the pictures go.

The files are generally either under a directory under the Program Directory in My Programs directory. OR Under a Directory in My Documents. As a soloution what about doing a "Search" for them... when you find them take note of where they are stored for future reference. I use this below program to find stuff it is IMHO better than M$ search. http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/download.aspx
