Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Convergence problem as described by others like Avil.

My 60 inch Philips TV same model # has the same problem, collapsing from the top and bottom as described by others. I believe I have the right parts identified as described by Avil but I am not positive. The RET resistors, when I did a search for replacement showed to types, Horizontal and Vertical. They were listed as different part #'s and prices, but from what I can see on the circuit board they look the same. Are they the same? can I just order the cheapest ones and use them? If not which three are Horizontal and which three are Vertical? Any help in clearing this up would be most helpful.

Thanks Troylove11 for clearing up that I need to replace the vertical RET resistors. I just don't know by looking at the board which ones are for vertical and which are for horizontal. Could you help me identify them?

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Solution:
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit inlcludes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its an easy fix.

Messed up

Probably the convergence board.

First, try resetting the TV by unplugging it for 30 seconds and replugging it.

Does the problem exist on both cable/sat and an external source like a dvd player/vcr?

Go to www.usasupport.philips.com and enter 60pp9200 as your model number - click on the link for the "Quick Start" Guide - read p 8 on manual convergence - if the manual convergence fails, then your convergence board is bad.

Convergence problem with philips 60 in.

depending on how old it is, it will either have a special menu (you will need to enter service mode to access it, need model number for that), or a panel in the back that you remove a few screws to gain access to. If it is the panel in the back, you will see about 20-50 little potentiometers, that have a slot in the top. Go to Radioshack, buy a TV alignment kit, stock number 64-2230. The pots will be in rows and columns, usually...and they should be labeled. Find the column/row for the red, and the pot for pincushion, which is the issue you are describing. With someone looking at the TV, and it on, turn that pot until the pincushion looks normal.
