Check the plug on the back at the power supply, and make sure the switch next to the input is set to "1" not "0". Just because you niece turned off your power strip, should not have caused failure to your system. Let me know...Tim

I clicked the turn off computer and it it shut down, now it will not restart ?

Make sure all the plugs are well seated, especially the power plug for the computer and monitor, and the video cable between the computer and monitor. Also check the power strip the computer is plugged into to see if it's tripped.

My dell dimension computer won't turn on. When I push in the button, it only flashes orange and then won't turn on.

Plug the computer into a power strip that has an on/off switch. Turn the power strip on. Press the computer power on button to start as normal, but after after one second turn off the power strip switch just long enough for the fans on the computer to slow down, but the amber computer led doesn't turn off and then turn the power strip switch back on. Computer should start and run fine. Computer typically can be shut down for up to 5 minutes and restarted normally--any longer and you have to sue the power strip power switch routine again

COMPAQ Presario v6000 dead, Period

Hi there.
Remove the battery and try it on AC power only, if it boots up turn it back off and put the battery back in again and power it up again, if it boots up, the cause will have a small surge from the power strip caused by the thunder storm.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

My hp desktop computer will not turn on

If you cant see or heard any boot up sounds, fans and especially if you dont see any power or green led lights at all ;

If your power cord is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, power cycle your strip or surge protector by turning off and on.

If power outlet has a wall switch make sure its on

Check that your power cable is securely plug in to both ends

Check that at the back of computer, specifically on the back of the power supply unit that the switch is on "1" position and NOT on the "0" position ( 1 is "ON" , 0 is "OFF" )

Check that the power outlet is not damaged by pluging in another good known device (such as a blowdryer, shaver, lamp, radio, etc, etc) to see if its the power outlet or not.

Can you see power or green led lights and hear the fan on but no display ? If this is the case , check your monitor connection at both ends. If they are secured open up your case and see if you can smell any burnt smell or check that all cards especially video cards are properly seated.

Will not power up

If the a/c adaptor is plugged into a power strip, reset power strip by turning off and on. If there's no power on strip use another power outlet.

Make sure PC power supply is good and securely connected.

My HP computer keeps crashing

Could be an overheating issue. Open it up and clean it out with canned air. Blow all the dust out of the fans and heat sink.

DFI Lanparty SLI-DR Problem

Hi inferno32,
why don't you try plugging strait into a wall socket, (make sure the wall socket is good). The power strip my be faulty. If your system still does not boot. Got a spare power supply? We've got to work from the wall socket back to the board. Some power supply's have a fuse internally. Your's may have blown. Almost every PC at one time or another encounters a system power failure, (lights out in the whole house deal). It's the spike that we all worry about. I'm not suggesting you run out & buy a new power supply but you can take your's apart look for a blown fuse. Post back your findings. Let's hope the power strip was the trouble maker.

Computer won't boot with chime-ing

If it beeps in a pattern (example 2 long 3 short) then I would need to know the pattern. With that pattern I could try to determine when the faulty component is.
