From what I know of other calculators, the FIX feature displays results in floating point mode of the type 12345.6789 depending on the maxim number of digits that the calculator can display.

Howerer, when you use the FIX command, you are expected to enter the number of decimal digits you want the results to have. Apparently, when you do no not specify that number, the calculator uses the default option.
I suggest you try [2ndF][FIX] 3. If that does not fix the number of decimal digits then try 3 [2ndF] [FIX]

Hope it helps.

Comments: - Just a thought. Pressing [ON] on a calculator that is in use, can for certain calculators reset defaults. So if you have no reason to press ON when the calculator is already ON, maybe you should not do it.

Syntax error on TI-30XIIS calculator when i press enter = sign

I had the same problem and finally figured out how to fix it. You need to clear the memory. To do so, first press and release the 2nd button at the top left of the calculator. You will see "2nd" appear on the screen at the lower left. next press the 0 button (which 2nd function is "Reset"). The key to making this work is: do not hold the 2nd button while pressing the 0 button. You have to press it, release it, and then press the 0 button.

Everytime i turn on my ti-83 plus the black box covers the whole screen and wont operate no matter what button i press

This really sounds like a problem with the contrast. Try this: turn the calculator on; press the second key, and then press and hold down. This she reduce the dark contrast.
Good Luck

My ti82 will not turn on. i have changed batteries

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when batteries are changed. Turn the calculator on (or at least press and release the ON button). Press and release the 2ND button. Press and hold the up-arrow button for five seconds or so until the screen becomes visible.

If this doesn't fix it, please post a comment and we'll go on from there.

Okay, I did what the best solution did and worked with it.

"1. press 2nd F (left top corner)
2. ENG/FIX (the button next to 2nd F)
3. press 0 (if you don't want calculator to round off any decimals)"

In order to get your exact value of pi, in step #3, instead of 0, press the decimal [ . ]
This should give you no decimals when entering a number and give you 3.141592654... when you input pi.
Hope that works/helps.
