Power surge resulting in no oven

Hi there, we had a power surge and it resulted in wrecking some of our belongins, one of them being our oven. Our stove top is still working, it is on dials, but our oven, which has a electric touch pad, is not. Also the built in electrical outlets on each side of the oven are not working. We changed the 15 amp fuses in the top and that didn't change anything. Our Home Hardware guy said we might need to change our relay(?!) I don't know what it is, where it is or what it looks like. The stove model is GRSR3920SM-1, Serial TR 266546 V. Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Val

I believe the oven it has a power surge protector within the appliance. Try to unplug it and plug it back in. It should solve the problem.

SOURCE: Frigidaire gallery stove, oven not working,

Morison,
The same thing happened to me about a week ago. I was preheating our electric oven, heard a very loud bang/pop. Checked and the oven had PF (power failure) I went downstairs and the breaker was tripped. Came back upstairs and to look at stove, the burners are working fine so I continued to preheat oven after a half an hour the oven was only slightly warm. Did you ever find out what was wrong?

How can I get my oven temperature to come on? A power outage caused the "lock" light to flash and no temp is appearing.

Are you sure that you have 220 volts to the oven. It is possible for a breaker to go bad and conduct power only on one leg and some things on the appliance will still work.
Electronic controls on ovens can be damaged by power surges caused by lightening strikes. That could be the problem but after looking at the circuit diagram of the panel it doesn't look like there are electronics that should be damaged by a surge.

If you are unable to adjust the power level, there may be a defective triac or a problem with the circuit board.

  1. Controller is confusedA power surge or random non-reproducible action of the universe may have resulted in the controller's program ending up in an infinite loop. Pull the plug for a minute or two to reset it.
  2. Defective Interlock switchesThis can result in the controller thinking the door is open and ignoring you.
  3. CleaningCleaning solutions (spray cleaner) may have gotten inside and shorted out the touchpad or controller. If this happens remove the touchpad, let it air dry for a few days, and then attach it back on the microwave.

My Tappan OTR microwave, model TMV151FB, runs but does not heat anything.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.
Here is a small list, of things that could be wrong with your unit

  • Bad interlocks switches or door misalignment causing fuses to blow or no operation when the start button is pressed. Locate and replace defective switches and/or realign door.

  • Arcing in oven chamber: clean oven chamber and waveguide thoroughly. Replace carbonized or damaged waveguide cover. Smooth rough metal edges. Touch up the interior paint.
  • Blown fuse due to power surge or old age: Replace fuse. On rare occasions, the main fuse may even be intermittent causing very strange symptoms.
  • An MOV, probably on the controller, may have shorted due to a power surge blowing the controller fuse. Remove remains of MOV, replace fuse and test, replace MOV for future surge protection.
  • Erratic touchpad operation due to spill - let touchpad dry out for a week.
  • Bugs in the works - the controller circuit board is a nice warm safe cozy place to raise a family.....
Careless troubleshooting of a microwave oven can result in death or worse. Experienced technicians have met their maker as a result of a momentary lapse of judgement while testing an oven with the cover removed. Microwave ovens are without a doubt, the most deadly type of consumer electronic equipment in wide spread use.

The power supplies for even the smallest microwave ovens operate at extremely lethal voltage and current levels. Do not attempt to troubleshoot, repair, or modify such equipment without understanding and following ALL of the relevant safety guidelines for high voltage and/or line connected electrical and electronic systems.

I will not be responsible for damage to equipment, your ego, county wide power outages, spontaneously generated mini (or larger) black holes, planetary disruptions, or personal injury or worse that may result from the use of this material.

The electronic oven control has gone bad. The repair is a lot less expensive than the replacement of the whole stove. Part number is 903091-9051 at about 165.00 retail. You can fix rather than replace whole stove. Hope this helps.

HI, this is a major control fault. you will need to replace the Oven control asap if possible. It has failed.

Possible causes--

*Power surge
*Failed logic(IC)
*Oven Temp Sensor failuer that has resulted in extreme temps that has overheated the board.

Oven won't work after power cut.

The power outage may have been a result of a power surge or included one. Check the surge protection, breakers or fuses, most likely found inside control panel. Of course turn power off to stove before opening up the panel. Breakers should be pushed all the way off before being pushed to the on position.
