Not exactly sure what you are asking but if the problem is that you are getting fine lines down the paper (the copy is ok though) then take a real close look atr the glass platen (the plate glass in which the paper goes on. Assuming you are using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) area. This area is usually about an inch wide by 8.5" long. Look for either "White out" or black ink on the glass (it can be as small as a dot) clean this mark off with glass cleaner and you problem will be solved. Sometimes it helps to orientate your copy with the line on it to the machine to locate the mark causing the issue.
Really sounds like a defective cartridge or bad contact. Have you changed any of the toners recently? If so, try another cartridge of the color that you just changed.
pull your drum unit out and look at the top of it. you will see a blue plastic tab. that tab has got to be all the way on the left side. if not, it will cause a black stripe about 3/4" wide.
i'm not sure if you're talking about a solid black band or a bunch of little stripes running down page. does it happen when you run an internal report or only on copies? if its a black solid band, check and make sure the bluish colored tab on top of the drum is all the way to the left side. if its a group of fine lines, depending on whether it happens on internal reports or not, it could be the drum is going bad or you may have a bad scanner. write back with a little more info if this suggestion doesn't work.
I had the same problem, replaced the PCR in the cartridge, the small black drum that pre charges the drum and erase the old image. After that print was all back ok.
