Question about Sony BDP-S301 Player
I have a Sony BDP-301. I rented X-Men Origins the other night. The menu and previews came up fine the first time, but we decided not to watch the movie. Now, every time I put the disc in, I get the error message "cannot play this disc." I tried restarting, upgrading the firmware to 4.90, and resetting to factory settings, but nothing works. I tried a couple other discs from my library and found that standard DVD's and older Blu-ray titles work, but newer Blu-ray's do not. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: I have a Samsung BD-P1000
BD-P1000 Update Solution
The solution that worked for me: I went to www.samsung.com/ca and downloaded the Samsung BD-P1000 player's firmware update to my desktop. When opened, I was directed to"burn" a DVD on my computer. I then inserted the new DVD in my Blu-Ray player. The player automatically checked and confirmed player model number and registration and uploaded information from the DVD and the update was complete. The BD-P1000 then flawlessly played the rented Blu-Ray disc of "The Scorpion King".
Thank You Samsung!

check with different Blu-ray discs and DVD discs. If the issue occurs only with some discs, then try updating the Firmware for the Blu-ray Player which should resolve the issue. Contact the Sony support team to get more information about the Firmware update for the Player.

You will need the following:
1) Internet connection
2) Wired router
3) long enough ethernet cable to reach from your blue ray player to the router.
Eject any disks and turn off the blu-ray player by unplugging it.
Attach the ethernet cable to the router and the other end to the ethernet port on the back of the blu-ray player.
Turn on the blu-ray player and wait for it to load all the way.
Using the remote, arrow over to the left to "Setup", the up to "Network Update".
After the unit updates and restarts, repeat until it tells you "Already Updated".
That should help you play the newer movies, and even some of the older ones.
