Did you try to flash the X-BOX drive with the j-tag exploit, if yes then it must have not run successfully , if you have not dont do it as it will just ruin your console if you donot know what you are doing. Try using a Cd-Lens cleaner as your DVD-Lens might be dirty and could be a cause. Does the disk spin when it is inserted into the drive ?

Clear your system cacheIf your Xbox 360 console can't play multiple game discs, try clearing your system cache. Here's how:
  1. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Memory.
  3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller.
  4. Select Clear System Cache.

    Collapse this imageExpand this imagesyssettings_deviceopt_clearsyscache.jpg

Note If Clear System Cache is not available, follow the steps in Clearing the System Cache (http://support.xbox.com/en-us/pages/xbox-360/troubleshoot/hardware/clear-system-cache.aspx) .
  5. Try to play a game disc.

Disconnect memory units or USB flash drives
  1. Turn off your console.
  2. Unplug any memory units or USB flash drives attached to your console.
  3. Turn on your console.
  4. Try playing a game.
If all these fail try this

My xbox is having troubles reading discs. It will sometime read a game as a dvd or even a cd, but wont go farther than a set screen. I have no red rings and have cleared my cache in memory settings. Dont...

You have a dirty laser or bad laser easy way to tell is to take your 360 apart and take the disc drive apart with the disc drive apart hook it back up to the 360 make sure to put the bottom shell back on the disc drive so you dont ground it out on the console. Look at your laser while it tries to read games. IF it produces a red beam try wiping it off with a qtip and rubbing alchol if that doesnt work you need a new laser which cost less then $10 on ebay. Hope this helps.

I just bought a Max Memory card and the xbox 360 is not reading it

Before christmas, microsoft were threatening to block all non official microsoft memory units from being used on the xbox, I have no idea whether they have carried out this threat, but there seems to be alot of problems with memory units lately, your best to contact customer support and find out whats going on. www.xbox.com/support
