This can be cause by more than one cause.
Sand, water exposure, dirt, or dust can cause the lens gears to get jammed and stop the camera. The gears are so small, the smallest piece of anything will cause problems and even break the gears.

500cm jamed

Depending on the age of the camera, I gather that the screw we are turning is the one that sets the lens spring? IF so you must turn it almost one whole turn and the more you turn it the harder it gets to turn! It will latch when it gets to the right spot and then you can take the lens off! Be very careful! if you slip off the screw with the tool, you can damage the lens.

Which zoom lens to buy for my pentax zx-50

Two lens should be good enough. First one for closer objects, 28-80mm lens which covers wide angel to portrait shoots and 70-200mm for distance shootings. Bring the camera to the camera shop to try on. Some pawn shop should have good prices. makes sure to purchase with returnable guarantee if not satisfied. -Good Luck. -James

My Casio Exilim Digital Camera S500 Would Not Turn On

My friend and I both have had this same problem with this camera, send it in and casio will replace your lens assembly for free if it is within the 1 year warranty. After the warranty, they will charge you a lot. If within warranty, you will get the camera back fixed within 14 days.

*Note, part of the problem is that the default setting is that when you hit the Record button in your pocket, the lens will try to open.. When it jams, this happens. You can turn that menu option off too.

Lens jammed will not retract, canon pc1147 zoom

I have had the same issue were the lens would not retract. took it in for extended warranty work. lens now retracts but takes lousy pictures.

When I purchased this camera family members ran out and bought thiers shortly after I did. One by one the same issue has happend to their v1253's.

I dissmantled one and found that there is a tiny battery on the power board inside of the camera. apparently the tiny battery's life is about 1 1/2 years. This battery is not serviceable as it is welded in place. I am not one hundred percent sure if this is the cause but it makes sense.

It would be nice if kodak would own up to this issue and make good on repairs as they did with my kodak 5500 all-in-one printer and it's crappy print head. Kodak has sent me 4 print heads in the 2 years I have owned it.

I have 5 of the v1253's in my family and every one of the are dead. I would think a $250 product should last longer than 1 1/2 years.
hope this helps.

you need to get camera serviced-usually lens jumps off track or is crooked and gets jamed-did camera get dropped?if older model than 1 yr usually 100-125 to repair-if new model still in warranty they will tell you someone broke it and it's not covered-as a last resort if you are going to toss camera anyway put pressure on lens as you try to zoom in and out or put lens between teeth and try to force back in place

Olympus FE-230 - When I turn on the camera, the lens comes out goes back in them comes out again. Then I have a blurry image on the screen. I can hear the gears turning to extend the lens. This camera is...

Hey fl_dolphin,
This is most likely caused by something obstructing the movement of the lens. You could try blowing compressed air in to the side of the lens to try and dislodge whatever is stuck in the lens. This could also be caused by a problem with the lens mechanism. If this is the case most digital cameras come with a 1 year manufacturers warranty and I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. If the camera is less than a year old the repair would likely be at no cost to you. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Lens failing to function properly

Possibility is two. 1. If the lens contact to the body is not good so make sure the contacts are clean and position is locked completely. 2. 90% of the solution comes from repair on Main circuit in the lens. Good Luck. For further assistance go to www.camerarepairjapan.com James.
