I have a Tecumseh Carburetor (#640017B) and I damaged the plastic jet going from the bowl into the carb. I was wondering if I could order this piece?

Get a tecumsea carb reguild kit ... the parts you need should be in the kit.

How to clean the carburetor on my 2004 Triumph?


Here is a link to a bike parts outfit that I have had good luck with. This link should take you directly to the Carb kits you can get. These are the things you need to do a partial or complete rebuild. It's sometimes better to replace with new, as they are cheap, as long as you are tearing it apart to clean.

Just installed a new carburetor on a Tecumseh Snow King 8 hp engine. Gas is getting to the carburetor but no gas is filling the bowl and engine won't start


Sounds like the carb needle valve is stuck closed. Try loosening the bolts holding the carb to the engine, then tapping the carb lightly with a hammer. If gas then flows to the carb, re-tighten the carb bolts evenly and not too tightly.

6.5 toro self propel.....new plug and new gas,,,turns over but then shuts down...replaced both neoprene hoses

The above link will provide a video on how to clean the carb on the 6.5 hp mower. Before you go to that length, try putting some carb cleaner in the fuel tank and see if that corrects the problem. Also, as the video shows, make sure the spark plug is getting a good spark. If the spark is weak , the fly wheel may be rusted, ot the magneto is bad.

Toro ccr 3000 wont start . I replaced the spark plug & fuel filter, cleaned the bowl on the carb it still won't start what else can I try? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yes, remove your carb and clean and repair it...that is your problem
I will include my solution to this problem below.

Sounds like you have dirt/debris in your caburetor jets,fuel passages or a diaphgram that is becoming non-flexible.
Check/Clean/Replace your Air Filter, a dirty air filter can make your engine run to rich with fuel.
Note: ALWAYS USE COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN YOUR JETS AND PASSAGES, VERY IMPORTANT.
Note:Before you disassemble the carburetor:
Write down on a piece of paper and or take a picture of how the linkage attaches to your carburetor for later reference when you go to reinstall your carburetor.
Mark each piece with a awl, or some kind of sharp instrument that will make an alignment scratch before you disassemble the carburetor into separate pieces.
That way you will know which way it goes back together when you reassemble it.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or by using a very small shot of starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that, and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
Be sure to check your fuel tank for water and dirt/debris, if there is water/debris then you need to clean your tank.
Check you fuel line/s condition...after a while they will degrade and need replacement.
Check/Clean/Replace your fuel filter if you have one.
When you remove your fuel lines from the carburetor be sure to make a drawing or take a picture of how the lines are connected to the carburetor.
Also a good time to take a picture for later reference for reassembly.
If the mower is over a couple of years old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
The diaphgram may look good and flexible, but it can be deceiving and not act as a fuel pump as it should because it has become too hard and will cause hard starting,start and run and shut off, etc.
When you clean your carburetor, I recommend that you use a laquer thinner type cleaner to clean and dissolve the laquer build-up in the float and needle jet passages.
Be sure to remove all plastic and rubber parts before using the laquer thinner because it can dissolve the plastic parts and render them unuseable.
Be sure to use COMPRESSED AIR to blow out all the fuel and air passages.The higher air pressure is needed to blow some of the trash/debris from the fuel or air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Keep in mind that the float (if you have one) for the carburetor must be level when you go to reassemble the carburetor or follow the instructions you get with the carburetor kit, or you could also ask the parts man that you get your kit from.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, you will first need to lightly seat the jet screws.
But before you lightly seat the jet screws count the number of turns it takes to seat the jet screws from their original position.
Be sure to mark the turns down on a piece of paper.
That way when you put the jets back in, you know to lightly seat them first and then turn them back out to their original position before you started.
Once you have your carburetor cleaned/rebuilt that should solve your problem.

13 hp tecumseh riding mower won't start unless gas is poured into carb. removed the bowl from carb has a wire snap holder float and needle and seat works OK and all passageways seem to be clean

remove the bowl again and get the centre jet out and lok very closely use a jewlers eye piece you wll find a passage that is plugged on the side of the jet look around it you ll see some sign of a hole that is not clear through its pretty small use a welders torch cleanng tool with various size rods use very thin one dont make the hole bigger

Carb leaking after fuel turned on and bowl fills. coming from small hole opposite fuel intake . whats wrong this is on an old trojan horse tiller tecumseh motor h60

Your inlet needle valve is stuck open, or has trash/debris under the needle seat allowing the fuel float to be jammed open and allowing the fuel to flow out of the overlflow of the carburetor.
Here are some suggestions.

Try to tap the carburetor bowl lightly with a plastic faced/brass hammer to loosen the float valve and it may solve your problem.
If the mower/weedeater is over a year old, then I recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit,because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
Sounds like you will need to clean the carburetor or replace your carburetor internal rubber parts like the diaphgram and O rings.
Be sure to use compressed air to blow out all the fuel and air passages.
Be careful when blowing out the passages, because there are sometimes small rubber type seats in the bottom of some of the passages.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor or using starting fluid and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.

Oh318 (tecumseh) Runs for a few minutes then cuts off. Starting fluid makes it run for a few sec. then it cuts off again. replaced whole bowl assembly. Cleaned carb in carb cleaner. Blew it out. Checked...


Fuel Starvation - Float Bowl Carburetor
1) remove air filter assembly
*be cautious of tearing the mounting gasket. If it does tear, you HAVE to replace it. It is part of the priming system
2) remove the float bowl fastener. This is the main jet
3) carefully remove the float bowl, the rubber o-ring/gasket will not be able to be used if it is removed, you WILL have to replace it
4) using a spray 'carb cleaner'
spray up thru the center of the carburetor
spray and clean the main jet with cleaner and 'tag' wire
(tag wire is very thin, and can be used to clean the hole in the center of the main jet)
5) clean any debris from inside the bowl or carb body
6) re-install bowl and center bolt, air filter assembly

*if you need gaskets, your Briggs dealer can supply. The kit is cheaper than individual gaskets, and all the parts needed to finish the above repair are in the kit.

Most surging problems today are caused by a 'lean fuel' condition caused by 'varnish' or debris in the 'main jet' of the carburetor. Many times the jet can be cleaned with a thin piece of wire commonly called 'tag' wire. It is smaller than the main jet hole and does not damage the hole. The main jet is commonly the nut on the bottom of the carburetor that holds the bowl onto the body of the carburetor.
If the body or bowl of the carburetor is plastic, then the best solution is to replace the bowl with a kit that is offered by the manufacture.
In some cases, the carburetor has an electric fuel solenoid, which when malfunctioning, will not allow enough fuel into the main jet to operate the engine.

Tecumseh LV195EA Starts then dies.


If the engine is running at all then your sensors should be ok. It sounds to me like its starving for fuel? Once the engine runs out of prime then it starves. Does the fuel system have a shut off valve? How about an inline fuel filter? Either could be plugged. I think what you will need to do is remove the carb from the engine and check to see if its clean and if fuel from the tank is flowing easily to it. Once you have the carb off the engine, remove the bowl from the carb by removing the bottom bowl nut. Use a small can or an ash tray to hold the small pieces. Shake the float back and forth to see if there is anything in it. Some floats are plastic and some are tin. If there is any liquid inside the float there is your problem. Otherwise continue on with your diagnosis by using a bread bag wire, minus the outer covering, and a little jet spray to probe and clean the internal jets. Pay particular attention to the center main jet which will have a small perpendicular air bleed hole near the bottom and to the air vent hole that is on the face of the carb where the air cleaner mounts. Any tiny piece of chaff will cause these to plug. For reassembly, the inlet needle slides into the float, and they are held to the casting by a pin. You can push the pin out with a small screwdriver and then grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers to get access to the float. Finally, check the O ring for cracks that goes between the bowl and the casting. This is an easy job, just take your time. Lawnboys are one of the better machines.
