When two antennae are cophased the harness should be made from 75ohm cable and then connected at the "T" then 50ohm to the radio. The spacing between the antennae is critical to the pattern of radiation and resistance of the system. If they are not the proper space apart for the length of the harness, you will not be able to tune them.

I just bought a cobra 29 LTD Chrome along with a 102" whip and spring. Best place to install antenna on semi dump truck? Suggestions? And how critical are your surroundings when tuning the antenna?

what kind of truck? does it have a fiberglass body? If it does then you would have to go directly to the chassis to mount the antenna. If you got a different antenna , like a Wilson 2000 , you could either run it co-phased or single. you would have to get mirror mounts and coax or buy a kit that has it included . Tuning a single antenna is easy but a twin is harder to do. you have to tune each antenna individually. what you also have to do is stay clear of buildings, overhead electrical wires ( high tension ) and metal objects. Now we know this is impossible so just get the SWR down as low as you can and also make sure your doors a both closed when checking the swr.

How to set duel wilson 2000 swr

with wilson antennas you don't have to need to run duals the proper way to adjust the SWR is to get an external meter like a trucker 2000 and a dummy load. you hook the dummy load to one antenna while working with the other and then switch the operation around. this way both antennas are matched seperatly yet work together.

I have a cobra 29 ltd classic and the swr light comes on during key up of the mike and i have tried another antenn and it does the same thing with it now i have the same radio in my truck and it is fine...

I have you had the radio peaked? If so this could cause that problem there is a can in the back of the radio that can turn it off. But if you haven't then get your SWR checked.

I also have another cobra 29 ltd classic and it works fine but i cant talk or hear what other factory cb's can hear, it is supposed to be tuned and peaked and i have a wilson 2,000 antenna, and i cant talk...

nearly all problems are caused by poorly tuned or untuned antennas. a good antenna system with a cheap stock radio will out perform a great tuned radio with a bad antenna system any day of the week. if you dont believe me, check the firestik antenna website's tech notes. or wilson's tech notes.

You got your radio peaked? Most likely, however, the pot for the antenna warning indicator is VR6. I always check that after peaking a radio.

I hope this will help you on setting your swr put the radio on channel 1 check your swr.
now go to channel 40 check the swr. If the swr is lower on 1 than it is on 40 the antenna must be shortened buy 1/4 inch.until you reach your desired swr.if the swr is lower on 40 than it is on 1 the antenna must be lenthened by 1/4 inch until desired swr.

I believe it to be feedback but be aware of your Standing wave ratio because using a linear amp radiates signal to the point that it could cause that light to come on. There is a problem if the radiated signal is feeding back into the amp a a higher level that it can withstand over time.
